Key Players Renew Contracts for the 2012 MLL Season
BOSTON, Mass. (Thursday, February 16, 2012) – Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced Thursday the signing of several key players for the 2012 MLL season including Ryan Boyle of the Boston Cannons, Buggs Combs of the Ohio Machine, Kyle Dixon of the Chesapeake Bayhawks, Kevin Leveille of the Rochester Rattlers, Jovan Miller of the Charlotte Hounds, and Matt Striebel of the Rochester Rattlers.
Boston Cannons attackman
Ryan Boyle has renewed his contract with the league for the 2012 MLL season. The Princeton University alumnus was the second overall selection in the 2004 MLL Collegiate Draft by the Rochester Rattlers. He is entering his fourth season with the Cannons, his ninth season with the league. Boyle played an integral role in leading the Cannons to their first-ever Steinfeld Trophy last season with 10 goals, 19 assists, and 16 ground balls totaling 29 points in 10 regular season games. He has played in 72 career MLL games and has scored 292 career points in the regular season (121 goals, 169 assists). He has appeared four times in an MLL playoff game and is a six time MLL All-Star.
Ohio Machine attackman
Buggs Combs has also renewed his contract for the 2012 MLL season. The Maryland alumnus joined the Baltimore Bayhawks in 2003 and has since played for the Rochester Rattlers, the L.A. Riptide and the Bayhawks. He is entering his first year with the expansion Ohio Machine, his ninth season with the league. Combs sat the 2011 season out due to a ruptured Achilles tendon he acquired before the start of the season. In 2010, Combs tallied 16 goals, 3 assists and 4 ground balls, totaling 19 points. In 2005, Combs was named the MLL Most Improved Player of the Year while with the Rochester Rattlers. He has played in 59 career games, scoring 156 points (132 goals, 24 assists).
Chesapeake Bayhawks attackman
Kyle Dixon has renewed his contract for this season. The University of Virginia alumnus was the second overall selection in the 2006 MLL Collegiate Draft by the Bayhawks. He was a member of the 2010 MLL Championship-winning Bayhawks team and led the league in two-point goals (11), and finished fifth in points with 37 (19 goals, 11 two-point goals, 7 assists). Last season Dixon scored 8 goals (4 two-pointers) and 8 assists, totaling 20 points. He is a three time MLL All-Star.
Rochester Rattlers attackman
Kevin Leveille has signed a contract for the 2012 MLL season. The MLL legend joined the league in 2003 when he was drafted by the Boston Cannons from the University of Massachusetts in the second round (9
th overall selection). Leveille is entering his first season with the Rattlers, his ninth season with the league. Leveille has played in 86 career games and scored 230 goals (2 two-pointers), 66 assists and 140 ground balls totaling 298 points. Leveille is also a six time MLL All-Star, is tied for fourth in the league in game-winning goals with 9, and was named the MLL Most Improved Player of the Year in 2004.
Charlotte Hounds midfielder
Jovan Miller has renewed his contract for the 2012 MLL season. The Syracuse alumnus was the No. 8 overall selection in the 2011 MLL Collegiate Draft by the Rochester Rattlers. He is entering his first season with the expansion Hounds and his second season with the league. Last season, Miller played in 7 games for the Rattlers and scored 4 goals and 4 assists, totaling 8 points. Miller was acquired by the Hounds from the Rattlers this year in exchange for the No. 17 and No. 25 picks in the recent 2012 MLL Collegiate Draft.
Rochester Rattlers midfielder
Matt Striebel has renewed his contract with the league and will enter his twelfth season with Major League Lacrosse. He is the only player in MLL history to join during its inaugural year and play consecutively through 2012. Striebel has played for the Bridgeport Barrage (2001-2003), Philadelphia Barrage (2004-2008), and the Chicago Machine (2009-2010). He will enter his second season with the Rochester Rattlers this year after tallying 25 points last season (13 goals, 4 two-point goals and 8 assists). Striebel has won the Steinfeld Trophy three times with the Philadelphia Barrage (2004, 2006 and 2007). In 2007 he was named the MLL Championship MVP. Striebel is also a seven time MLL All-Star.
