All-Star Game Skills Competition Announced

March 18, 2016
The MLL Skills Competition will be held at halftime of the MLL All-Star Game presented by Moe’s Southwest Grill on Saturday, July 13. Two staple marks of the competition, the Fastest Shot and the Freestyle contest, will both return, and for the first time there will be a Long Distance accuracy competition. Whether watching at home or at the game, fans are not going to want to miss this.

The Fastest Shot Contest features four players shooting as hard as they can to see who can put the fastest shot on cage. Ohio’s Kyle Hartzell is the two-time reigning champion, and is back again to defend his crown against a host of sharpshooters who have their eyes on the prize. The challengers include 2012 participants Steven Brooks (Chesapeake Bayhawks) and Jeremy Sieverts (Denver Outlaws), as well as All-Star newcomer Mike Manley of the Rochester Rattlers.

The Freestyle Competition is a combination of creativity and athleticism, where each competitor attempts to score a goal in the most entertaining way possible. Hamilton’s Brett Queener returns as the 2012 champion, and he also won the event in 2009. Boston’s Kevin Buchanan won the event in 2010, and he will be competing in the event again. There will also be two newcomers to the 2013 freestyle contest, as Boston’s Mike Stone and New York’s Rob Pannell will be making their first appearances. Pannell, a rookie, has already proven to be one of the most exciting young players in the sport.

2013 will be the first year of the Long Distance Accuracy Competition, in which the contestants will try to throw the ball into the goal from all they way across the field. Denver’s Chris Bocklet, the leading goal-scorer in the MLL will be going up against Hamilton’s Brodie Merrill, Charlotte’s Ryan Flanagan, and Chesapeake goalie Kip Turner to see who will be crowned the first Long Distance Accuracy Champion.

The MLL All-Star Game, presented by Moe’s Southwest Grill features some of the most exciting players in the world, and it promises to be an entertaining event from start to finish, and one that no lacrosse fan will want to miss. To find tickets and for more information about all the events surrounding the All-Star festivities visit’s All-Star page.
