ALL-STAR WATCH: Chesapeake Bayhawks

March 18, 2016
The Major League Lacrosse All-Star Game is fast approaching, and with it, predictions for who will make the cut are proliferating. Team MLL will be announced Tuesday, June 10, and until then, we will preview who we believe to be worthy of donning an All-Star Jersey.

While the Team USA roster includes current MLL players, it is limited to only 31 spots. This leaves many of the best players available for the All Star team including those from the 2012 and 2013 Steinfeld Trophy winners, the Chesapeake Bayhawks.

Six current Bayhawks are on the USA roster including Matt Abbott and Brendan Mundorf; however, Steven Brooks, Peet Poillon, and Ben Rubeor are some of the best players in the game and not on team USA. The MLL All Star roster will be announced tomorrow, so in the meantime here is why we consider Brooks, Poillon, and Rubeor potential All Stars.

Brooks is the Bayhawks top scoring midfielder and second highest scoring player behind Brendan Mundorf. He has nine points in six games from five goals (one 2pt) and three assists. If selected this would not be Steven’s first All Star appearance, having been selected twice before as a Bayhawk. Since joining the Bayhawks in 2011, Steven Brook’s has been awarded the MVP of the game at least once every season. Brooks was selected for the Team USA roster but was cut after the Blue-White scrimmage in January.

Poillon has averaged just under a goal a game so far this season, scoring five and adding one assist. He has played in four All-Star games including the last All Star – USA matchup in 2010. Also in 2010, he was named MLL most improved player.

Rubeor is the Bayhawks secondhighest scoring player with 10 points in six games. In the 2012 Championship Rubeor  was named championship MVP. In 2013 he was selected as an all star for team Supernova and tallied 3 points in the 24-15 win over team Eclipse. Rubeor was on the original Team USA tryout roster; however, he did not make the 51-man training roster.

Brooks,  Poillon, and Rubeor are just a few of the potential All Stars waiting for the roster to be announced June 10.

Team MLL will faceoff against Team USA June 26 th at Harvard Stadium in Cambridge, Mass. showcasing some of the world’s best lacrosse in action and in a skills competition. If you don’t have your tickets for the event yet, be sure to check out the All-Star page for information regarding the day.
