Denver Uses 10-1 Run to Beat Blaze for Third-Place and a Playoff Spot

August 5, 2018
Denver withstood an early Atlanta onslaught and a 90-minute inclement weather delay to earn another playoff MLL berth with a 15-14 victory at Fifth Third Bank Stadium. Finishing with a 8-6 record, the Outlaws will head to Annapolis to face the second-place Chesapeake Bayhawks Saturday, Aug. 11.

Eric Law fueled the Denver comeback scoring twice in the second quarter and added two in the fourth quarter. He finished with five goals on the night. Drew Snider, Matt Kavanagh, Zach Currier and Josh Hawkins added two goals apiece to bolster the Outlaws attack.

Denver trailed 8-3 before peeling off seven straight goals in a 15:40 span bridging the second and third quarters. Dillon Ward made 13 saves to earn the victory.

The Blaze were led offensively by Kevin Rice and Christian Cuccinello, each scoring a hat trick, and Connor Kelly scored a pair. Kelly appeared to tie the game with a two-point goal with just :29 left in the fourth quarter, but video replays showed his lead foot was on the line, making it a single-point goal.

The loss evened Atlanta's record at 7-7, its best in the team's three-year existence.
