Game Notes: Denver

The undefeated, 3-0, Denver Outlaws debut at home this weekend, hosting the 1-2, Rochester Rattlers. Both teams are coming off a win from last week, and will look to enhance their early resumes.  The match will face off at 9:00 p.m. (ET) and will be nationally televised on CBS Sports Network starting at 10:00 p.m. on a one-hour tape delay.

This will be the 7 th all-time meeting between the two programs, with Rochester owning a 4-2 advantage in the series. Rochester also holds a 1-0 postseason record over Denver. The 2008 MLL Championship game featured the two teams, eventually crowning Rochester Steinfeld Cup Champions, after a 16-6 win.

Last season, Denver won both match-ups against the Rattlers, taking home a 16-12 decision on June 16, and a 17-12 victory on August 4. Brendan Mundorf shined bright for Denver, compiling nine goals and three assists during the two games. These two teams will square off again this season on Saturday, July 20, at 1:00 PM (ET), at Sahlen’s Stadium.

Denver heads into the game undefeated, tied with Chesapeake for most notches in the win column, with three. All three wins have come on the road, gathering one apiece from Charlotte, Ohio, and Boston. The Outlaws are averaging 16 goals per game, while giving up an average of 11.3 on the season thus far.

Denver has a well-balanced attack with Drew Snider, Chris Bocklet, Jeremy Sieverts, Brendan Mundorf, and Terry Kimener all part of the top 20 scoring leaders of 2013. The Outlaws are led defensively by goalie Jesse Schwartzman, the only goalie in the League to have three wins. His 35 total saves are second in the League, only behind New York’s Drew Adams.

Rochester enters the weekend 1-2, coming off of a 13-10 win over the Charlotte Hounds this past weekend. Their two losses on the year have come from Chesapeake on April 27 and Charlotte on May 5. Rochester’s defense is giving up an average of 14 goals per game, and will need to limit Denver’s attackers in order to come out with the win. Last week’s Warrior Offensive Player of the Week, and Rochester’s scoring leader, Ned Crotty, has 10 points on the season, with midfielder Matt Striebel adding eight. Goaltender John Galloway is coming off his first win over Charlotte, averaging 11 saves per game.
