Major League Lacrosse Announces Weekly Award Winners for Week 4

Matt Brown and DJ Driscoll Take Home the Honors This Week

Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, has announced its weekly award winners following this past weekend's action.  Matt Brown of the Denver Outlaws was named the Offensive Player of the Week and DJ Driscoll of the Chicago Machine was named the Defensive Player of the Week for their performances.

Brown was honored after his strong play in a 15-10 Denver win over the Long Island Lizards.  Brown was perfect shooting the ball against Long Island, netting five goals on just five shots.  The attackman has always been known for his accuracy, last season he led all full season starters with a .511 shooting percentage.  He’s keeping up with his reputation as a sharpshooter with a .500 shooting percentage this year, tallying 10 goals on 20 shots.

Brown also picked up an assist for a total of six points on the day.  One of his goals was on the extra man advantage.  Brown sits at 11 points on the year after his effort last weekend.

The Outlaws selected Brown with the No. 43 overall pick in the 2005 MLL Supplemental Draft.  Brown is a graduate of the University of Denver and was First Team All-GWLL in his senior season.  He is also fourth all time on Denver’s career goals scored list with 113.

Driscoll earned the defensive honors this week after doing a little bit of everything aside from his usual longstick role.  Driscoll picked up two assists in a dramatic come from behind win over the Toronto Nationals on Saturday.  The two points were Driscoll’s first of the season.  He remains a vacuum in the opening field, having scooped up 14 groundballs through four games this season.  Chicago scored a buzzer beating two-point goal for the unlikely win, dropping Toronto to 0-4 on the season.  Driscoll has the Machine rolling towards the playoffs with a record of 3-1 and tied for first place.

The 6’4” longpole is in his fourth year in the league after playing his college ball at Notre Dame. Driscoll has been all over the field during his four years, having scooped up 161 ground balls in that time.
