2011 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Q:  When is the MLL College Draft?
A:  The Draft will be held on Friday, January 21 from 8:30 pm – 11:00 pm

2.  Q:  Do I have to fill out any paperwork to be eligible for the Draft?

A:  No, there is no paperwork to fill out, per NCAA rules.  Only seniors with expiring eligibility
after the 2011 NCAA season are eligible to be drafted.

        3.  Q:  How do I avoid jeopardizing my senior year of eligibility?

A:  Simple. The MLL has already taken the steps to make sure that your being drafted by an MLL
team prior to the start of your senior season will in no way impact your eligibility to play
                    your final year.

As stated above in Point #2, we are not having players who are enrolled at NCAA institutions                                register to be part of the draft.

Once you are drafted, the MLL will not be offering or issuing you a contract or discussing terms of an                    agreement with you until your team’s season (including postseason) is concluded. Major League                        Lacrosse is a single entity, so all players are employees of the League and not of the team that may                    draft them.

        4.  Q:  Am I allowed to reach out to teams regarding the Draft?

A:  To limit the distraction prior to the start of your senior season, the MLL has determined that
potential draftees are not to have any direct contact with MLL teams.  The MLL has also
determined that teams are not allowed to have direct contact with any potential draftee. If
any MLL team makes direct contact with a potential player prior to the draft they will be in
violation of league rules and subject to MLL discipline.

       5.   Q:  Are MLL coaches and General Managers allowed to contact my college coach?

A:  Yes, our coaches and General Managers are allowed to contact your coaches to talk about

A:  No, MLL is not allowing any draft eligible players under any circumstance to attend the Draft.

      7.   Q:  Will the Draft be broadcast on January 21st?

A:  Yes, the draft will be streamed live on from 8:30 pm – 11:00 pm. is
available in 72 million homes in the US and on all college campuses.  Major League Lacrosse

      8.   Q:  Can I accept any free team gear (hat, jersey, etc) from the team that selected me either during                     or after the Draft?

A:  No, under NCAA rules that would be considered an extra benefit.  MLL teams have been
instructed not to provide you with any league product, subject to severe League discipline. If
you do receive any free MLL team gear from anyone, please return it immediately and
                contact your Compliance Office.

     9.  Q:  During the Draft, what happens if a team or media outlet contacts me?

A:  Per NCAA rules, you are allowed to speak with teams and various media outlets during and
after the Draft.  There may be instances where the broadcast team will reach out
to you for an interview during the Draft as part of the broadcast.

  10.   Q:  During my 2011 season can I answer questions during an interview about playing in MLL?

A:  Yes, you are allowed to answer questions regarding your plans for the summer.  You are not
allowed to enter into an agreement to play (either written or verbally).  As we addressed in
#3, the MLL will not be making you an offer or issuing you a contract until after your eligibility
                 has expired.

 11.   Q:  Will I be able to sign a contact immediately following the Draft?

A:  No, as stated above in #3, it is against NCAA rules to sign a contract with intent to play a
professional sport if you are still enrolled as a student-athlete.  Contracts will be distributed
to you following the conclusion of your 2011 season.

  12.  Q:  What happens if I am not selected in the Draft?

A:  After the NCAA season is complete on Memorial Day, the MLL will allow all undrafted seniors who just                completeld their eligability to register for the Player Pool for a one week period.  After that, teams will                    be able to select you by using the normal MLL waiver wire process.  Please note there is no such                        thing as being a free agent in the MLL, so all undrafted players will go through this process.
