MLL Legend Casey Powell Renews Contract for 2012 Season

BOSTON, Mass. (Wednesday, February 22, 2012)– Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced Wednesday that MLL Legend and Hamilton Nationals attackman Casey Powell has renewed his contract with the league for the 2012 season. This will mark his second season with the Nationals, his ninth season with the league.

The Syracuse University standout joined the league in 2001, its inaugural year, and has played for the Long Island Lizards, Rochester Rattlers, and Hamilton Nationals. Powell is MLL’s all-time point leader with 392 points. He has a long list of accolades, including two-time MLL Champion and four-time MLL All-Star. He is seventh all-time in goals with 199. Powell was named the MLL Offensive Player of the Year in 2005 and is one of ten players in MLL history to earn at least ten Bud Light MLL Player of the Game honors.

Last season, Powell led the Nationals to the 2011 MLL Championship Weekend and led a second-half comeback with three of his four goals. He led the playoffs with five goals and eight points, despite falling short to the Boston Cannons.

Powell is one of Syracue University’s best players of all-time. He was a four-time All-American and a two-time National Player of the Year. He helped lead SU to the 1995 NCAA National Championship and was recognized as a four-time member of the NCAA All-Tournament team. He was also named the Division I Attackman of the Year in 1998. He is tied for second all-time in points along with his brother Ryan. He amassed 287 points (158 + 129) for the Orange over four seasons (1994-98).
