Nationals Rout Rochester for 2nd Straight Win

HAMILTON, Ontario, Canada - After becoming the last Major League Lacrosse team to earn a win this season, the Hamilton Nationals used a strong second quarter to earn their second straight win, a 17-8 victory over the Rochester Rattlers at Ron Joyce Stadium on Saturday evening.

The Nationals, who improved to 2-3 this season, outscored Rochester by an 8-2 margin in the second quarter to take a 10-4 lead at the intermission they did not relinquish.

After midfielder Steven Boyle gave Rochester a 1-0 lead just over two minutes into the game, the Nationals used a pair of goals by midfielder Stephen Keogh to take a 2-1 advantage with 4:27 left in the period.

Midfielder Jordan MacIntosh scored off a feed from attackman Ned Crotty with 2:12 left in the first quarter to tie the game at 2-2 before the teams traded goals to open the second quarter.

With the score tied at 3-3, the Nationals put together a six-goal run to take a 9-3 advantage with 1:43 remaining in the first half. Keogh led the Nationals' run by scoring a goal with three assists while midfielder David Earl scored twice.

The teams traded goals to end the second quarter, giving Hamilton a 10-4 cushion at the intermission.

Boyle scored just 56 seconds into the third quarter to narrow the gap to 10-5, but the Nationals scored five straight goals over a six-minute span, upping their lead to 15-5. Attackman Joe Resetarits led the spurt by scoring a pair of goals.

The Rattlers put together a three-goal run of its own over a 10-minute span that spanned the end of the third quarter and the first nine minutes of the fourth quarter, but the Nationals sealed the victory with a pair of goals late in regulation.

Keogh, who was named as the Bud Light MLL Player of the Game, led the Nationals with his six-point effort while Earl added three goals with two assists.

Boyle scored three goals with an assist to lead Rochester in a losing effort.
