PREVIEW: 2013 Championship Game

March 18, 2016
Chester, Pa. (August 24, 2013) - After an exciting day of semi-final action from PPL Park, in Chester, PA, the Charlotte Hounds and Chesapeake Bayhawks will face off Sunday, August 25 at the MLL Championship Game, presented by Smartlink at 3 p.m. (ET).

The number four seeded Hounds beat the previously undefeated Denver Outlaws 17-14 in Saturday’s first semi-final game. Rookie Mike Sawyer tallied four goals and five points to earn Player of the Game, and fuel the Hounds to their first ever title game appearance. The defending champions earned their championship berth by edging out the Hamilton Nationals 13-12. Play came down to the wire as Player of the Game, Michael Kimmel scored with 1:25 remaining, securing the victory for Chesapeake.

The Bayhawks will look to hoist their fifth Steinfeld Trophy in club history, having competed in the Championship Game seven times in their last nine Championship Weekend appearances. On the other hand, Charlotte is looking to dethrone the 2012 MLL Champion Bayhawks, and grab their first championship in only their second MLL season.

Just two weeks ago, Chesapeake overran the Hounds 16-14 in their home stadium. The Bayhawks used a six-goal fourth quarter to propel them past the Hounds, earning Player of the Game honors for Ben Rubeor, who finished with four goals, two assists, and six total points.

Earlier in the season, Charlotte defeated Chesapeake 16-15 in an overtime thriller on June 22. Ryan Young, Player of the Game, scored the extra time goal completing the hat trick.

This season, these teams have proved to be two of the best offenses in the League, posting the second and third highest points per game. After two close games this year, the Bayhawks and Hounds are sure to put on an entertaining Championship Game.
