Rattlers Acquire Ross from Cannons in Exchange for Cahill

March 18, 2016
BOSTON, Mass. (Tuesday, June 12, 2012) – Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced Tuesday that the Rochester Rattlers have acquired midfielder Brad Ross from the Boston Cannons in exchange for midfielder Martin Cahill.

Ross, a member of the 2011 MLL Championship Boston Cannons, saw a career high in goals and assists last season with Boston, scoring 19 goals and six assists. This season, the Duke University alumnus has contributed three goals in four games. Ross was a second round selection (15th overall) in the 2009 MLL Collegiate Draft by the Nationals.

“This is a bittersweet trade. On one hand we are very excited to welcome Brad Ross aboard,” said Rattlers Head Coach Tim Soudan. “He is excited to reunite with some of his former Duke teammates. We feel like he is going to be a big part of our offense moving forward. On the other hand, Marty will be missed by the entire Rattlers Family. He is a class act and we wish him the best!”

The Cannons are excited to add Cahill to their midfield. The former Delaware Blue Hen had a breakout season in 2011 when he scored 16 goals for the Rattlers. He was named to the 2011 MLL All-Star Game for the first time last season and was a ninth overall draft pick in the 2010 MLL Collegiate Draft by the now defunct Chicago Machine. This season, Cahill is scoreless in five games played.

“We will miss Brad. He was a great Cannons player and strong contributor to our team the last few years. I wish him success with the Rattlers,” said Cannons Head Coach Steve Duffy. “We’re excited to add Martin Cahill. We feel he’ll strengthen our team and add another element to our offense.”

The midfielders will suit up for their respective teams this weekend. The Rochester Rattlers will play the Denver Outlaws at Sports Authority Field at Mile High Stadium on Saturday, June 16 at 9:30 p.m. ET. The game will be televised live on CBS Sports Network. The Boston Cannons will travel to Charlotte to take on the Hounds on Saturday, June 16 at 7:00 p.m. The game will also be available on CBS Sports Network.
