RECAP: Ohio 17 - Rochester 15

March 18, 2016

The Ohio Machine (7-6) defeated the Rochester Rattlers (9-4) 17-5 in a tight match at Sahlen’s Stadium on Saturday Night.  In the spirit of Burn Cancer Week, both teams showed true heart and fire coming from behind and taking the lead at different points throughout the game.

The first quarter looked like an even fight as both teams battled back and forth. Jordan Wolf picked up where he left off last week, scoring the first goal of the game for the Rattlers. Marcus Holman brought the game level soon after only to see John Ranagan regain the lead for the hosts.

After  a tally by Ohio’s Kevin Cooper, Rattlers goalie John Galloway made a big save on a Peter Baum ripped a shot, but Holman was able to take advantage of the rebound and finish the goal for the Machine.

Kevin Leveille scored a quick-stick shot off of a feed from Jordan MacIntosh followed by  a Steele Stanwick buzzer-beater to put the Machine ahead 4-3 coming into the end of the quarter.

Within the first few minutes of the second, Holman finished off his hat trick and Kyle Harrison scored the third straight goal for the Machine.

Rookies Miles Thompson and Mark Cockerton combined to get another goal for the Rattlers but Peter Baum responded with a two-pointer. Rochester’s Dave Lawson and MacIntosh, however, followed suit, closing the gap, 6-8.

Lawson put away his second goal of the night sandwiched between tallies by Steele Stanwick and Holman to give the Machine a 10-7 lead at the half.

Leveille and Joel White opened up the third quarter with two quick goals, while Holman pulled one back off of a power play, but despite being man down, the Rattlers responded with goals by MacIntosh and Lawson to tie the game 11-11.

Cockerton gave the Rattlers a temporary lead to which Ohio faceoff man Bobby Dattilo immediately responded tying the game at 12. But another buzzer-beater, this time by Cockerton would give the Rattlers a one point lead going into the final period.

While Rochester appeared to be pulling ahead in the third quarter, the Machine proved they could hang with the best. Cockerton and Lawson’s goals in the fourth were not enough to offset the final surge from Ohio.  Schuss’ goals and the scoring streak by Holman, Cooper and Stanwick in the last ten minutes of the game sealed the 17-15 win for the visitors.

Next week, watch the Ohio Machine host the Florida Launch on Saturday, August 9 at 7:00 p.m. (ET). Rochester will head to Boston to take on the Cannons at 7:00 p.m. (ET). You can catch both games on YouTube.
