Strong Offensive Effort Leads Denver Past Hamilton

HAMILTON, Ontario, Canada - Midfielder Jordan McBride scored six goals, including three in the first half, and added two assists as the Denver Outlaws moved into a tie for first place in the Major League Lacrosse standings after posting a 21-12 victory over the Hamilton Nationals at Ron Joyce Stadium on Saturday night.

The Outlaws, who improved to 9-3 on the season, are now tied with Chesapeake for the top spot in the league standings after the Bayhawks lost at Boston earlier on Saturday afternoon.

After the teams traded goals in the opening four minutes of the first quarter, midfielder Joe Resetarits gave Hamilton a 2-1 lead with his second goal of the period off an assist from attackman Kevin Crowley.

But, the Outlaws answered by putting together a five-goal run, which included a two-point goal from attackman Jeremy Sieverts, to take a 7-2 lead with 37 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

The teams exchanged goals in the first six minutes of the second quarter before the Nationals used back-to-back goals from Crowley and midfielder Donny Moss to narrow the gap to 8-5.

However, the Outlaws ended the second quarter just like they did in the first quarter by scoring four unanswered goals, including a two-point marker from midfielder Drew Snider, to take a commanding 13-5 advantage into the intermission.

The Outlaws upped their lead to 15-5 in the third quarter on a pair of goals from McBride and attackman Brendan Mundorf before Hamilton put together three consecutive goals, including a pair of Crowley markers, to trim the deficit to 15-8 with 4:22 remaining in the period.

After the teams traded goals to end the third quarter, the Nationals opened the fourth quarter with back-to-back power-play goals from Crowley and midfielder Joe Walters, cutting the Nationals' deficit to 16-11 with 12:10 remaining in regulation.

But, the Outlaws put the game out of reach by scoring five of the final six goals, including two goals each from McBride and rookie attackman Mark Matthews.

While McBride led the Outlaws with his eight-point performance, Mundorf added two goals with three assists while Matthews posted a three-goal, two-assist effort.

Meanwhile, Crowley led the Nationals in a losing effort with four goals and three assists, upping his season total to 20 assists, which ties his Hamilton single-season record. Walters contributed three goals with two assists.
