Grant will Enter his First Season with the Chesapeake Bayhawks this Year

BOSTON, Mass. (Thursday, March 01, 2012) – Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced Thursday that veteran attackman John Grant Jr. has renewed his contract for the 2012 MLL season. He will enter his first season with the Chesapeake Bayhawks.

The Delaware alumnus joined the league in 2001, its inaugural year, and has played for the Rochester Rattlers, the Nationals and the Long Island Lizards. Grant will enter his ninth season with the league and has accumulated a long list of accolades throughout his career. He was the league’s first ever Warrior MLL Offensive Player of the Year after its inaugural season and was later named both the Warrior Offensive Player of the Year and Bud Light MLL MVP of the Year in both 2007 and 2008. He is a four-time MLL All-Star and was named to the Great Atlantic All-MLL Team in 2007 and 2008. In 2007, Grant broke the league's single-season points record with 71 points. In 2008, He led the league in scoring with 64 points (47 goals, 4 two-pointers, 13 assists). The attackman also led the Rattlers to their first Steinfeld Trophy with a 16-6 win over Denver in the 2008 MLL Championship.

Grant was recently traded from the Lizards to the Bayhawks in exchange for a second round selection in the 2013 MLL Collegiate Draft in addition to the rights to attackman Matt Gibson, who was selected by the Bayhawks in the 2012 MLL Collegiate Draft.

“John Grant, Jr. is one of the best talents lacrosse has ever seen,” Bayhawks’ general manager Brian Reese stated after the trade. “He is going to compliment the group we have and be another great finisher on our offensive end. We have a lot of respect for what John has accomplished in his career and are excited to have him on the roster this season.”
