Westervelt, Galloway and Law earn Player of the Week honors

March 18, 2016
Major League Lacrosse, the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced the weekly award winners for week 6 of the 2013 season, which concluded on June 9. The winners are chosen every week by the League, and are based on outstanding in-game achievements. Chesapeake Bayhawks’ Drew Westervelt earned Warrior Offensive Player of the Week, and Rochester Rattlers’ John Galloway was named Warrior Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week. Cascade's Rookie of the Week honors went to Denver Outlaws attack Eric Law.

Westervelt racked up a career-high eight goals in Chesapeake's 21-8 victory over the NY Lizards last Thursday night. The attackman buried half of his goals in the first quarter, then added four more, and one helper in the second half of play. His 9 points doubled his previous four-game sum, bringing his season total to 18 points. Westervelt finished 8-of-13 on the night, solidifying a .615 shooting percentage. Currently in his 7th MLL season, the Chesapeake standout has accumulated 148 career goals, 73 career assists, and 227 career points. The Bayhawks next host the undefeated Denver Outlaws at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium on Saturday, June 15. This game kicks off at 6:30 p.m. (ET) and can be seen live nationally on CBS Sports Network.

Galloway captured his second consecutive award after a 23 save performance against the Boston Cannons, in Kennesaw, Ga., on Saturday night. Galloway earned his third win of the year with the 16-14 decision, improving Rochester's record to 3-3. The goalie held Boston to a single fourth quarter goal, and a total of four second half goals to help the Rattlers come from behind. The Rochester netminder finished with a .565 save percentage, and added nine ground balls in the win. The Rattlers are now tied for fourth place in the standings, and will look to continue their success against the Ohio Machine on Saturday, June 15. YouTube will broadcast this game live at 7:30 p.m. (ET).

Law made his MLL debut on Saturday, following his graduation from the University of Denver earlier in the day. The Colorado native, fired in four goals to help Denver take down the previously unbeaten Hamilton Nationals 22-9. Law shot lights out, finishing on all four attempts he took, earning Player of the Game honors as well. All of the attackman's goals came in the third quarter as Denver built the separation they needed. Throughout his college career, he compiled 86 goals, 66 assists, and 152 points. The Denver Outlaws travel to Annapolis, Md. to take on the Bayhawks on Saturday, June 15. Tune into CBS Sports Network at 6:30 p.m. (ET).
