What's Coming to All-Star: Ultimate MLL Fan Winners

March 17, 2016
This year for All-Star Weekend, Major League Lacrosse hosted a contest to reward some of our biggest fans. We asked our fans to submit a video telling us why they are the Ultimate MLL Fan. The two winners will get the MLL Ultimate Fan Experience, receiving a trip to the 2012 MLL All-Star Game in Palm Beach County, Fla., where they will serve as honorary captains for the Young Guns and Old School teams during All-Star Weekend. The two lucky fans also get personalized jerseys and a locker alongside their favorite pro lacrosse players. The Ultimate MLL Fans will get to interact with the MLL players up close and personal, both on and off the field.

After a viewing all, nationwide submissions, MLL has chosen two winners: Dallas Towner of Delaware and Ian Burbidge of Oregon. In their videos, both Dallas and Ian told us how much they love lacrosse and showcased their knowledge of the league and its players. We took some time to catch up with both Dallas and Ian to learn more about them.

Dallas Towner

What was your first thought when you found out you won the MLL Ultimate Fan Experience?

Well I was really excited like anyone else would be, I was jumping up and down. I had dreams about what it would be like to win this and I just put so much thought into it. I was just glad I won.

What is your favorite thing about the sport of lacrosse?

My favorite thing about lacrosse is when you get the rush of making big plays. I get to hang out with my friends while doing it and it keeps me in shape.

How did you first get involved with lacrosse?

Well it was in third grade. I was going to play baseball but my parents don’t really like it, they thought it was boring to watch. My dad used to play lacrosse with his friends, at Hobart College, so he introduced me to it and after I played I really liked it!

Dallas, you said that Ned Crotty is your favorite MLL player. Why is that?

He’s a dynamic play maker. He seems like he isn’t afraid of any defender and just goes in no matter what the cost to make plays for his team.

Favorite motto?

Float like a butterfly and sting like a bee.

What is your favorite pump up song?

Well I got to say “I’m a Boss” by Nek Mill or “Remember the Name” by Fort Minor.

Favorite sports movie?

Water Boy or Happy Gilmore with Adam Sandler.

What are you looking forward to the most about the MLL All-Star Weekend?

To meet all the players cause I think it’s gonna be pretty cool. I think just in general enjoy the experience to be down in Florida and enjoy the game.

Ian Burbidge

So Ian, in your video submission you mentioned that you are a goalie for your High School’s JV team as a freshman. What drew you to the goalie position?

Probably the pride. I thought it was a fun position. It was unique first of all and I just thought it was fun.

What is your favorite thing about the sport of lacrosse?

My favorite thing in lacrosse is definitely the fast pace. It’s the fast pace and the action, you’re not sitting around or anything like that; you’re always moving.

How did you first get into the sport of lacrosse?

Well my older brother started playing when we were in Salt Lake then when we moved to Oregon it was a little bit bigger and one of my friends actually got me started. My brother thought it was cool so I got into it through a local rec league.

In your video you mentioned that Kip Turner is your favorite player. What drew you to Kip?

Well when I started playing I just found him and I thought he was really cool. He was good so I decided to follow him and he became my favorite player.

Favorite pump up song?

Can’t Hold Us by Macklemore.

Favorite sports movie?

Miracle, the 1980’s US Olympic Hockey team against Russia.

Favorite lacrosse moment?

At our last tournament we had a Brave-heart 1v1 against Liberty and we won by me making a save and then one of my good friends taking it in, shooting it, and making it so that was a great experience.

What are you looking forward to the most about the MLL All-Star Weekend?

Definitely meeting players, seeing my first MLL game, and just having fun.
