Florida Launch 2014 Schedule Announced

Launch Builds Strong 2014 Draft Class

Building up towards its 2014 inaugural season, the Florida Launch came in strong with its seven picks during the 2014 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft.

The Launch began its night by drafting St. Johns University record-setting attackman Kieran McArdle with its first pick and fifth overall of the night. McArdle goes into his senior year after ending his junior season being named a USILA All-American, becoming the first player in school history to receive the honor. McArdle was also named BIG EAST Attack Player of the Year after he led the BIG EAST in points (85), goals (36) and assists (49), as well as set St. Johns record for points and assists in a season. At the end of the 2013 season, McArdle led the NCAA in assists, averaging 3.77 per game, and ranked second in the NCAA for points per game with 6.54.

“Kieran McArdle is a great player who fits a hole we have,” said Head Coach Stan Ross. “We needed an attackman that can handle multiple things and can handle the ball, as well as be a good feeder and dodger. And overall with the entire draft, we got the pieces we needed to fill our other holes and we are excited about these players.”

The Launch kept adding to its collegiate draft board with its second round picks of The Ohio State University defenseman Joe Meurer (10th Overall) and University of North Carolina midfielder Ryan Creighton (12th Overall).  Meurer, who will serve as team co-captain for the 2014 season, has played with the Buckeyes in 47 games over the past three seasons, tallying 90 groundballs and 32 caused turnovers.  Three-time Tar Heel captain Creighton finished his junior year as an USILA honorable mention All-American with 11 goals and three assists, as well as tallying 22 groundballs and nine turnovers.  Creighton has played in a total of 50 games for North Carolina, tallying 28 goals and 12 assists for a total of 40 points.

The Launch closed out the 2014 MLL Collegiate Draft by picking up Maryland goalie Niko Amato (29th Overall), Colgate defenseman Bobby Lawrence (45th Overall), Providence midfielder Andrew Barton (53rd Overall) and Jacksonville attackman Duncan Clancy (61st Overall).
