CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Midfielder Peet Poillon scored four goals, including a two-point marker, and added two assists as the Denver Outlaws (1-0) spoiled the Major League Lacrosse debut for the Charlotte Hounds (0-1) with a 21-12 victory in front of 6,734 fans at Memorial Stadium on Saturday evening.

While spoiling the Hounds' MLL debut, the Outlaws were able to present Coach Jim Stagnitta with a victory in his MLL debut.

After midfielder Stephen Berger gave Charlotte a 1-0 lead less than two minutes into the first quarter, midfielder Jeremy Sieverts answered with a two-point goal to give Denver a 2-1 edge.

The teams traded goals before the Hounds tied the game at 3-3 on a goal from Ryan Hurley with 3:05 left in the opening stanza. However, attackman Joe Yevoli gave Denver a two-point edge with just 14 seconds left in the first quarter when he tallied an unassisted two-point goal.

The teams exchanged goals to open the second quarter before a three-point spurt by the Hounds gave Charlotte a 7-6 advantage with 9:47 left in the first half. But, the Outlaws used three goals from Ryan Hoff to ignite a five-point run over the final 9:11 of the period for an 11-7 lead at the intermission.

Led by two goals from midfielder Brian Carroll, the Hounds opened the second half with three consecutive goals to close the margin to 11-10. But, the Outlaws put together another quick 4-0 spurt to extend the lead to 15-10 as Poillon scored two goals during the run.

Sieverts added two goals in the first two minutes of the fourth quarter to lead Denver on a three-goal spurt and an 18-10 cushion with 12:51 remaining in regulation.

After a goal by Jovan Miller stopped the Outlaws' run with 12:31 left, Denver scored three of the final four goals to secure the victory.

While Poillon paced the Outlaws with his seven-point performance, Sieverts contributed four goals, including a pair of two-point markers, with an assist. Attackman Terry Kimener also added three goals with two assists as the Outlaws outshot Charlotte by a 46-35 margin.
