At the X presented by The Faceoff Academy

After a great Week 9, the difference between first and second place on our leaderboard is closer than ever. As the end of the season nears, every game— and every possession— is crucial, so the face off specialists will play an even more important role as their teams look to make it to the final game in Atlanta. Check back each week to find out the best FOGOs in the league in “At the X, presented by the Faceoff Academy.”

1. Chris Eck — Boston Cannons (136-for-224)

Eck has now won at least 60% of his face offs in three consecutive games, most recently going 16-for-25 at the X in last week’s loss to Charlotte. He also dominated for Team USA at the All-Star Game, winning 12 of the 17 face offs he took there. The Cannons now sit in a three-way tie for fourth place, so if they want to make the playoffs, Eck will need to continue playing well, while the team will have to start capitalizing on the advantage he gives them.

2. Greg Gurenlian — New York Lizards (140-for-233)

Just a few percentage points separate Gurenlian from first place this week, which is not a surprise given the way he has played this season. In New York’s victory over Ohio, Gurenlian won 14 of the 21 face offs he took, which was the best individual performance of Week 9. He’ll have a chance to reclaim the top spot soon, as his Lizards take on the Florida Launch this Thursday.

3. Anthony Kelly — Denver Outlaws (122-for-222)

Although the Outlaws fell to Rochester last Sunday, they did have the advantage in the face off battle, thanks in large part to Kelly. The veteran FOGO won 14 of the 27 face offs that he attempted, which was good enough to keep him in third place this week. This weekend, the Boston Cannons will travel to Denver, which means we’ll get a great battle at the X between Eck and Kelly. Depending on the game’s outcome, the top of our leaderboard could look very different next week.

Here are the best of the rest: the cumulative ranking of the top 10 guys to take at least 30 face offs for their team this season.
