RECAP: Ohio 13 - Charlotte 12 (OT)

FINAL STATS

The Ohio Machine (5-6) had a thrilling 13-12 overtime win over the Charlotte Hounds (4-7) to tie the Boston Cannons (5-6) for fourth place in the league standings.

The game started slow with a three goal effort from Ohio while Charlotte contributed one. The first goal came less than a minute in when Logan Schuss quickly netted a pass from Tom Schreiber. Rookie, Mike Chanenchuk answered for Charlotte and scored the only goal of the first quarter for the Hounds before Ohio’s Peter Baum and Derek Maltz each scored for the Machine to end the first up, 3-1.

Charlotte opened up the second quarter with a goal from another rookie, Justin Ward, after nearly a twenty minute scoring drought for Charlotte. Ohio’s rookie Kevin Cooper scored the lone goal for the Machine before Charlotte netted three unanswered goals to lead at the half, 5-4.

The third quarter proved to be exciting with back and forth scoring that ended the quarter in a tie at nine a piece. Brian Farrell, Eric O’Brien, and Maltz scored the first three of the quarter to put Ohio ahead by two. Matt Danowski (2), Mike Sawyer, and Thomas DeNapoli scored the next four goals of the night. Maltz and Schuss added two more for the Machine, tying at 9 entering the fourth period.

While Charlotte faceoff specialist, Tim Fallon, scored the first of the fourth just 13 seconds in, the excitement came towards the end of the quarter. After goals from Maltz and Schuss, Hounds attackman Ryan Young scored to tie the game only to see Ohio’s Brian Farrell take the lead with less than three minutes to go. Young responded with  diving goal across the top of the crease with one second left in regulation to force overtime.
