At the X presented by The Faceoff Academy

Thanks to some extremely high-scoring games, we got to see more face offs than usual last week. There were a few surprises in the final statistics, and for the first time in weeks, a new FOGO cracked our top three. As teams fight for playoff spots and the opportunity to host a semifinal game, they’ll need to make the most of every possession— but first, they’ll need their man at the X to get things rolling. Check back each week to find out the best FOGOs in the league in “At the X, presented by the Faceoff Academy.”

1. Greg Gurenlian — New York Lizards (168-for-279)

Gurenlian had yet another strong performance at the X last week, winning 14 of 26 face offs and also adding two assists. Although the Lizards ultimately lost to Chesapeake, they did manage to clinch a spot in postseason play. New York has a host of talented scorers, but they’ll be relying to Gurenlian’s expertise at midfield to set up the offense and propel them through the playoffs.

2. Chris Eck — Boston Cannons (168-for-287)

The Cannons’ FOGO got off to an impressive start last week against Florida, winning the opening face off and scoring his first goal of the season just five seconds later. Eck finished the game 14-for-31 at the X, and picked up a team-high 11 ground balls in the game. He now leads the league with 89 ground balls on the season.

3. Bobby Dattilo — Ohio Machine (67-for-124)

Although the Machine have shuffled between face off specialists this season, they seem to have found a standout in Dattilo, who appeared in just five games over the past two seasons with Rochester. This season, however, Dattilo has capitalized on his opportunities with Ohio, particularly over the last two weeks. In Week 11, he won 10 of 16 face offs, and last week, his dominating 19-for-25 performance at the X helped the Machine knock off Denver and remain in the playoff hunt.

Here are the best of the rest: the cumulative ranking of the top 10 guys to take at least 30 face offs for their team this season.
