Power Rankings Week 13

During the 2014 MLL season, Major League Lacrosse will be using a power ranking system to show fans how their favorite team stacks up against the competition. A teams' power ranking is based on voting conducted by MajorLeagueLacrosse.com's contributing writers. After raw scores from the writers are combined, teams will then be rated on a scale of 1-100. That final number will represent a team's power ranking for that week.

The Ohio Machine defeated the Rochester Rattlers 17-15 on the road at Sahlen’s Stadium. Marcus Holman led the offense with his 6 goals and 2 assists. He was named Coca-Cola Player of the Game due to his offensive contributions. Attackman Steele Stanwick tallied 4 goals on the night. Midfielder Kevin Cooper finished with 2 goals and 2 assists. This win allows the Machine to keep rolling to the playoffs, they are now fourth in the Major League Lacrosse standings.

Rochester Ratlers

The Rochester Rattlers fell to the Ohio Machine last week, tallying their first at-home loss this season. The Rattlers played a tough game against Ohio, but the Machine sealed the deal in the last ten minutes of play. The Rattlers, despite the loss, have already secured a spot in the playoffs and one of the two home field advantage spots available

After a tough loss to Chesapeake last week, the Lizards bounced back to pick up a tight 12-11 win over the Hounds. New York struggled at the beginning of the game, having to play catch-up after falling behind early. New York was able to pull ahead, but once again was unable to secure their victory in the final quarter, nearly letting Charlotte tie the game. The Lizards will need to adjust their offense and tighten up their defense if they hope to make a run in the playoffs.

Denver (9-4) defeated Chesapeake (4-9) last weekend at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. John Grant Jr. stole the stage when he broke the all time scoring record with 280 goals. Grant's amazing performance of four goals and four assists helped lead him to the new record and his team to victory.

Boston Cannons

Boston fought for their playoff lives last week against the Florida Launch, and it worked out in their favor. The Cannons dominated the first half, but slipped in the second as the Launch hinted at a comeback. Fortunately, for Boston, the 16-15 final score over Florida keeps them in the running for that fourth and final spot. Next week, their game against daunting Rochester Rattlers will determine their post-season fate.

Despite being out of the playoff picture, Casey Powell’s offensive wizardry gives Launch fans plenty to cheer for. Florida can play the part of spoilers this week when they travel to Ohio, where the Machine need a win-to-get-in.

Chesapeake Bayhawks

While the Bayhawks fell short to the Outlaws, they had a strong rally in the third that almost led to the defeat of Denver. The Bayhawks came out at the start of the second half, trailing, 10-4, with fire in their eyes and dominated the third out-scoring the Outlaws 8-2. Even with the rally though, the Bayhawks couldn’t overcome the Denver offense, led by John Grant Jr (4g 4a)..

Charlotte Hounds

Four straight losses, still winless on the road and Ryan Young’s 30 game scoring streak has come to an end. It’s been a difficult second half of the season. Thank goodness the Hound’s faceoff against Chesapeake this week, the MLL’s other basement dweller.
