Hiller To Go Into UMASS Hall Of Fame

Chicago Machine General Manager and Director of Player Personnel Scott Hiller will be inducted into the University of Massachusetts Athletic Hall of Fame on September 10th.   Hiller is one of six former UMASS athletes who will be inducted, the list also includes basketball standout Marcus Camby.

Hiller, who played lacrosse for the Minutemen between 1987 and 1990, is one of only 3 UMass athletes ever to be named a 4-time All American.  Hiller led the team in scoring three years in a row from 1987-1989 and ranks third all-time in career goals scored at UMASS with 135.  His 190 career points are the sixth most in school history and he is one of just 3 players to score 40 or more points in each of his 4 seasons playing for the Minutemen.

“UMass lacrosse is such a close fraternity. The bond between UMass players is special,” says Hiller. “It is pretty special to be inducted into the same school you went to. UMass is such a great place and to be selected is amazing.”

Hiller joined Major League Lacrosse in 2001, the league’s first season, as an assistant coach for the Boston Cannons.  In 2002 he took over as head coach and in four seasons with the Cannons Hiller compiled a 32-18 record and was twice named the MLL Coach of the Year (2002 and 2005).  Following his 4-year tenure with the Cannons, Hiller became the Head Coach and General Manager of the Bayhawks in 2006.   He spent tow years on the sideline before becoming the full time General Manager in 2008, a title he would hold through the 2009 season.   This past season Hiller served as the General Manager and Director of Player Personnel for the Chicago Machine.

Major League Lacrosse Commissioner David Gross, worked with Scott Hiller first when both were with the Cannons in the league’s first four seasons.   “Scottie has been an invaluable asset to the league through our first decade and someone we hope will stay involved in the league for years to come.”
