Paul Rabil Makes Succesful 2010 MLL Season Debut
The Boston Cannons and 10,615 fans warmly welcomed back 2009 Budlight MVP of the Year Paul Rabil during week two of the 2010 Major League Lacrosse season when the Cannons faced the Chicago Machine Saturday at Harvard Stadium.
Paul Rabil contributed three goals for the Cannons in a 17-15 victory over the Machine. However, he doesn’t take much credit for the team’s success in the victory against Chicago. “We had a great team effort. The guys took a lot of pressure off of me. They may have scored the first eight or nine goals before I had to do anything, so it’s a pleasure playing with those guys,” Rabil stated.
Rabil was unavailable to play in last week’s game against the Denver Outlaws because his NLL team, the Washington Stealth, played in the championship game against the Toronto Rock and won. Although it is difficult to transition from playing with the NLL to the MLL, Rabil is happy to be back with the Cannons and is grateful at the opportunities his teammates gave him in order to ease back into the game. Rabil says, “The biggest difficulty for me in the transition last year was finding the right spacing. But the best part about tonight was our spacing. I had a lot of space to dodge. I owe a lot of credit to the team and the opportunities they did give me.”
Boston Cannons Head Coach Bill Daye was pleased with Rabil’s performance in his season debut. “It takes a little while when you come from indoors to outdoors. Tonight Paul came out and he was moving well and shooting well and was getting acclimated with his teammates.”
Coach Daye believes adding Rabil to the lineup along with a strong offense is a great threat to opponents and will help create scoring opportunities. “When you have multiple guys who can go to the goalie and create opportunities up top it takes a lot of pressure off of Rabil. And then when he needs to step up he’s able to do that.”
Rabil is glad to be back in Boston and is looking forward to the rest of the season with the Cannons. “It’s so great being a part of this organization and being here in front of this crowd. There is nothing like it in the MLL. It’s fun to play for such enthusiastic fans.”
The Boston Cannons have started the 2010 season strong due to a strong offense and team chemistry. Coach Daye stated, “I definitely like the direction we’re going in. But we have a long way to go and a lot of work to do.” Rabil added, “We just gotta buckle down and just play our game.”
With Paul Rabil’s selfless attitude and ability to mesh well with his talented teammates, the Cannons are sure to create threatening obstacles for future opponents.
