Major League Lacrosse has yet again built a twist into the 2012 MLL All-Star Game. This year there will be two local high school coaches manning the sidelines as assistant coaches for both the Old School and the Young Guns team. The two featured coaches are Andrew Bolger and Chris Heide.
Coach Bolger is the Head Varsity Coach at Pope John Paul II High School in Boca Raton, Florida. In March, he received the U.S. Lacrosse South Florida Chapter Coach of the Month. Coach Bolger is the founder of Florida Elite Lacrosse which is a select lacrosse program for both boys and girls. He is also known by the South Florida lacrosse crowd because he started one of the first lacrosse camps in South Florida, the Premier Players Lacrosse Camp. At the US Lacrosse National Coaches Convention, Bolger received the 2009 General J. Carroll Award, which is also known as the National Coaching Award. As well as coaching, Andrew Bolger plays on the Palm Beach Men’s Lacrosse Team and is the 8-time leading scorer for the league. In 2007, he was inducted into the South Florida Lacrosse Hall of Fame as a player. In his younger days, he played attack for St. John’s University.
Coach Heide has been the Head Varsity Coach at WT Dyer High School in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. He has been coaching there since the 2002 season in which he led the team to the 2006 Florida State IA Championship. While he is away from the high school game, Coach Heide is coaching the 5th/ 6thgrade ‘Orange’ PBGYAA lacrosse team where his son is a standout midfielder. During Heide’s youth, he played high school lacrosse and soccer on Long Island. For college, Heide played lacrosse at Michigan State when it was a Division I program.
