Last week, Rochester Rattlers midfielder Matt Striebel tied the record for games played in the league. The veteran currently holds the record with Tim Goettelmann, who retired at the end of last season. The two set the bar at 132 career games.
Coach Soudan says "Matt Striebel is a great leader and brings a certain level of confidence to the younger guys" and will be important in clinching a playoff spot.
With this week’s game against the Charlotte Hounds (3-7), Striebel hopes to claim the title of All-Time Games Played by competing in his 133rd career MLL game. The Rattlers will host the Hounds at Sahlen's Stadium this Friday, July 20 at 7 p.m. ET. The game will be televised locally and on ESPN3.
The first eight years of Striebel’s career in the league were with the, now disbanded, Philadelphia Barrage (’01-’08) before playing for the Chicago Machine from ’09-’10. Striebel will break the All-Time Games Played record with the Rattlers, of who he is in his second season. Striebel is a three-time Steinfeld Trophy winner (’04,’06,’07) as well as a MLL Championship Game MVP. He is a three-time member of the US National team (2x Gold Medalist) and a five-time MLL All-Star.
While playing for Princeton, the team qualified for the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship all four years of his career with the Tigers. Made it to the Championship game three times, won the Championship game twice, and won four Ivy League Championships. Striebel was a two-time honorable mention United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) All-American and three-time All-Ivy League selection (once first team, twice second team). He was also an All-Ivy League performer in soccer and earned Princeton co-athlete of the year honors as a senior.
