Despite several opportunities, no MLL team clinched a playoff spot in Week 12. The Chesapeake Bayhawks remain the only team to have secured a spot in the playoff race while the Charlotte Hounds, Hamilton Nationals and Ohio Machine have been eliminated from the picture. The Boston Cannons, Denver Outlaws, Long Island Lizards and Rochester Rattlers will battle it out this week and keep their eyes on the scoreboard as each franchise is still alive in the race to the 2012 MLL Championship Weekend. Here, MLL breaks down the various scenarios that could transpire in Week 13.
|Chesapeake, 9-3||League Leader|
|Denver, 9-3||Wild Card No. 1|
|Long Island, 8-4||Wild Card No. 2|
|Boston, 7-5||Wild Card No. 3|
The Cannons stayed alive last week after rallying 16-13 against the No. 1 Chesapeake Bayhawks at Harvard Stadium. Three things must happen for the now 7-5 Cannons to clinch a playoff spot in Week 13 against the Ohio Machine. First they must win. Second, Long Island must defeat Chesapeake and finally, Rochester must lose to Denver.
Next Game: The Cannons will host the Ohio Machine this Saturday, August 4 at Harvard Stadium at 7 p.m. ET. The game will be televised live on ESPN3.
The expansion Charlotte Hounds were eliminated in Week 11 after a 14-5 loss to the Rochester Rattlers. The Hounds will play a final road game in Hamilton before playing their final home game at American Legion Memorial Stadium.
Next Game: The Hounds will travel to face the Hamilton Nationals this Saturday, August 4 at Shuart Stadium at 7 p.m. ET. The game will be televised live locally and on ESPN3.
In Week 11, the No. 1 Bayhawks became the first team to clinch a 2012 playoff berth with an 11-7 win over the expansion Ohio Machine. The Bayhawks are now 9-3 after falling to the Boston Cannons in Week 12. They will have home field advantage this week against the Lizards.
Next Game: The Bayhawks will host the Long Island Lizards at Navy-Marine Corps. Memorial Stadium this Saturday, August 4 at 7 p.m. ET. The game will be televised live on CBS Sports Network.
The No. 2 Denver Outlaws can clinch a playoff spot with a win over the Rattlers this week OR a Boston loss. A win would move Denver to 10-3 and the best record Boston could have would be 9-5 at the end of the season. Rochester would drop to three games behind Denver with one week remaining.
Next Game: The Outlaws will travel to face the Rochester Rattlers this Saturday, August 4 at 7 p.m. ET. The game will be televised live on ESPN3.
The Nationals were eliminated in Week 11 following a 19-12 loss to the Long Island Lizards. They are now 3-9 and will play their final two games at home.
Next Game: The Hamilton Nationals will host the Charlotte Hounds this Saturday, August 4 at 7 p.m. ET. The game will be televised live on ESPN3.
The Lizards can clinch a playoff spot with a win. The team would move to 9-4 and the worst record they could finish with would be 9-5 and would advance in a 3 or 4 team tiebreaker.
If Long Island loses, they're not out of the equation. The Lizards still have a fighting chance if the team loses AND Boston falls to the Machine. The worst record Long Island can finish with would be 8-6 and the best record Boston can finish with would be 8-6. If Boston, Long Island and Rochester finish 8-6, Rochester would be the No. 3 seed based on the three-team tiebreaker. Long Island would then be the No. 4 seed, holding the head-to-head tiebreaker 2-0 over Boston.
Next Game: The Long Island Lizards will travel to Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium to play the No. 1 Chesapeake Bayhawks on Saturday, August 4 at 7 p.m. ET. The game will be televised live on CBS Sports Network.
The Ohio Machine were eliminated in Week 11 after a 11-7 loss against the Chesapeake Bayhawks. The Machine are 2-10 on the season and will play a home-and-home series against the Boston Cannons.
Next Game: The Machine will travel to take on the Boston Cannons this Saturday at 7 p.m. The game will be televised live locally and on ESPN3.
Rochester can be eliminated from the playoff picture in Week 13 if the team loses and both the Cannons and Lizards win. Rochester would drop to 7-6, Long Island woudl go to 9-4 and Boston would to to 8-5. Long Island would be two games up with one week to play and Boston holds the tiebreaker over Rochester (goal differential between the two teams).
Next Game: The Rattlers will host the Denver Outlaws this Saturday, August 4 at Sahlen’s Stadium at 7 p.m. ET. The game will be televised live locally and on ESPN3.
Note: As standings change each week, so do the tie-breakers; scenarios from one week are not necessarily the same the next week.
