Before the start of the 2013 Major League Lacrosse regular season, all eight MLL teams will convene in their respective training camps starting this weekend.
The Boston Cannons have broken up their training camp into three sessions across three weeks, the first of which consists of practice at Harvard Stadium in Boston, MA from 4:00 – 8:00 PM on Saturday, April 6. The following weekend, the team will visit Glastonbury High School in Connecticut for an afternoon practice, followed by a scrimmage against the CroART All-Stars on Saturday, April 13 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. The third and final session the following weekend will see the Cannons participate in the Gentle Giant Challenge Charity Run at noon on Saturday, April 20, followed by a one-hour practice from 4:00 – 5:00 PM and another scrimmage against the CroART All-Stars from 5:30-7:30PM. Their weekend will conclude with a final practice from 8:30-10:00 AM on the morning of Sunday, April 21.
The 2012 MLL Champion Chesapeake Bayhawks open training camp on Saturday, April 6 with two sessions at Ann Arundel Community College in Arnold, Md. from 1:00 to 3:00 PM and from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Practices will continue on Sunday, April 7 at AACC from 9:00 to 11:00 AM and Saturday, April 13 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM. The Bayhawks’ training camp will conclude with a scrimmage on Saturday, April 20 against the Denver Outlaws at Archbishop Spalding High School in Severn, Md. at 7:00 PM.
The new-look New York Lizards will kick off their first official training camp as an NY sports franchise on Sunday, April 7 with two practice sessions at Hofstra from 10:00 AM-noon and 2:00 – 4:00 PM. The following week, the Lizards will practice on the road twice more, first at Randall’s Island from 8:00 – 10:00 PM on Saturday, April 13 and then at Stony Brook from 9:00 AM-noon on Sunday, April 14. In their final weekend, the Lizards will travel to Poly Prep or Northport on Saturday, April 20 for a 6:00 – 8:00 PM practice, and then to Smithtown West High School on Sunday, April 21st from noon-2:00 PM.
Two separate camp sessions for the Charlotte Hounds will start on Friday, April 12with team testing and physicals, followed by a team dinner. The next day, the Hounds have scheduled strength & conditioning with Nick Stevens prior to an 11:30AM-12:45 PM Practice at Charlotte Christian Field, followed by an additional practice from 2:00-3:45 PM before concluding with a team dinner/appearance at Buffalo Wild Wings. On Sunday, April 14, the team will practice again from 9:15 -11:45 AM before departing for the U.S. National Whitewater Center, where they will participate in team building and whitewater rafting for the afternoon before heading to the airport.
The next weekend, Charlotte will hold two practices at Providence Day Field on Saturday, April 20, from 10:00 AM- noon and 2:00PM-4:00PM, intercut with a team position meeting and preceding an appearance at the Hickory Tavern. Their final day will consist of two more practice sessions at Providence Day, from 9:45 AM-noon and 1:00-2:30 PM before the Hounds leave for the airport prepared to start their 2013 MLL season.
There won’t be much travel necessary for the Hamilton Nationals during the weekend of April 20-21, when the team will host their training camp at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. Saturday, April 20 will have physicals from 10:00 AM-1:00 PM, with Head Shots and video peppered in-between, until practice on Alumni Field from 2:00-5:00 PM. The next day, an extended practice will be held on Alumni Field from 9:00 AM-1:00 PM, effectively concluding the Nationals training camp.
For the 2012 MLL runner-up Denver Outlaws, training camp begins at home during the weekend of April 13-14, and continues the following weekend, April 20-21 on the East coast in Baltimore, Md., highlighted by the aforementioned scrimmage against the Bayhawks on April 21. In-between sessions, the Outlaws will have offseason workouts during the week to continue their preparation for what may yet be another run at the Steinfeld Trophy; this year, however, it’s safe to say they won’t be settling for second best.
Preseason preparation for the Ohio Machine will begin the weekend of April 13, with an 8AM-3PM session at St. Charles Prep on Sunday, April 14th. The following weekend, the Machine will spend April 20 at Wellington School, where they will also be holding a scrimmage, from 9:00AM-4:00PM before returning to St. Charles Prep on Sunday, April 21 from 8:00AM-3:00PM. Additionally, the Machine will have a few player appearances at Midwest Lacrosse, Ronald McDonald House and OSU Medical Center Hospital.
And finally the Rochester Rattlers will hold their camp at SUNY Albany with sessions on Saturday April 13, Sunday April 14 and concluding the following weekend on Saturday, April 20 and Sunday, April 21.
