Hounds activate collegiate draftees

The Charlotte Hounds of Major League Lacrosse announced that it has activated four of its 2013 MLL Collegiate Draft Selections, including 2013 First Team All-American midfielder John Haus from the University of Maryland. Joining Haus on the Hounds roster are longpole middie Mason Poli out of Bryant University and Michael McCormack from Yale, as well as midfielder Matt White of Virginia.

Haus recently wrapped up a highly successful career for the Terrapins after helping them to four straight NCAA Tournament appearances, including back-to-back trips to the finals in 2011 and 2012. In 2013, Haus finished the season with 18 goals and 10 assists while earning First Team All-ACC and USILA All-American nods. He finished his career with 103 points on 60 goals and 43 assists.

Poli capped off an historic career for Bryant, leading the team to the first division one NCAA Tournament appearance in program history in 2013. Poli established himself as a two-way threat while at Bryant, scoring 44 goals over the course of his career while also causing 69 turnovers. In 2012 he led all longpoles in scoring with 25 points. Poli concludes his Bryant career having made the USILA Honorable Mention All-American team for the third straight season, as well as three straight appearances on the All-Northeast Conference First Team.

White concludes his Virginia career after a career-best 2013 season in which he scored 29 goals and had 14 assists while being named to the USILA All-America Second Team. During his career he had 134 points in 67 games for the Cavaliers while playing both attack and midfield. White was also named to the NCAA All-Tournament team after scoring 8 goals and 3 assists in helping Virginia capture the National Championship in 2011.

McCormack finished his Yale career after serving as team captain in 2013, while helping the Bulldogs to an appearance in the NCAA quarterfinals. 2013 was the second straight season that Yale had reached the NCAA tournament after winning the Ivy League tournament in both years. McCormack had his best individual year in 2013 as well, scooping up 64 ground balls and causing 24 turnovers, good for second on the team in both categories. He leaves Yale after being named to the All-Ivy Second Team for the third time in four seasons.

All four of these players will be available for the Hounds’ next game against the New York Lizards on Friday, May 31, at 7:30 p.m. The game came be seen live on CBS Sports Network.
