MLL Power Rankings

During the 2013 MLL season, Major League Lacrosse will be using a power ranking system to show fans how their favorite team stacks up against the competition. A teams' power ranking is based on cumulative season statistics, as well as voting conducted by MLL.com's contributing writers. After raw scores from the two are combined, teams will then be rated on a scale of 1-100. That final number will represent a team's power ranking for that week.

Denver Outlaws

1

86.5

The Outlaws put up 24 points on Boston this past weekend, the most points by any team in a single game so far this season. Denver's offense is also extremely well rounded; it offers four of the top ten scoring leaders in the league, all of whom have 17 or more points in 2013.

Hamilton Nationals

2

67.5

Hamilton has been able to defeat their first five opponents in their 2013 campaign, most notably an overtime thriller last weekend against the Bayhawks. The Nationals boast one of the most dominant defenseman in the league in Brodie Merrill. Solid play by Brett Queener in net has cemented the Nats' rock solid defense.

Chesapeake Bayhawks

3

56

The defending champs are by far the most veteran and complete team, but the Bayhawks have had trouble closing out close games. Chesapeake fans shouldn't worry, however, the 'Hawks will likely find their way back to championship weekend.

4

New York Lizards

4

53

Powered by a talented group of attackmen, the Lizards haven't shown that they deserve to be ranked in the top three just yet. A couple wins could turn this team into a contender, but RP3 (Rob Pannell) and the other rookies need to find some magic together if they hope to make a postseason run.

5

Charlotte Hounds

5

47

Coming off of a very important win over the fourth ranked Lizards, the Hounds are looking solid through their first five games. If they can take care of Ohio this weekend, they could create some separation between themselves and the other teams fighting for a playoff spot.

Rochester Ratlers

6

44

The Rattler's roster is strong on paper, but they haven't found a rhythm as a team quite yet. In order to turn their season around Rochester needs to start scoring more, their 49 goals this season rank just 7th in the League. Their play has been sloppy at times, accumulating a lot of unforced turnovers. John Galloway looked solid in net against Ohio, he will need to continue strong play to keep his team's playoff hopes alive.

7

Boston Cannons

7

38

Despite the 1-4 record, the Cannons are playing decent lacrosse. They handed Chesapeake their first loss in week four, and have probably played the league's toughest schedule to this point.

8

Ohio Machine

8

21

Ohio's record pretty much speaks for itself, they have been left winless to this point at 0-5. The Machine should improve as rookie chemistry continues to develop. Brian Phipps may also have provided an answer to the team's issues in net.
