The Denver Outlaws look to defend their 6-0 winning streak on Saturday, June 16, in Annapolis, Md. against the Chesapeake Bayhawks at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The game faces off at 6:30 p.m. and will be broadcast live nationally on CBS Sports Network.
The Outlaws and the Bayhawks last met in the 2012 MLL Championship Game. Chesapeake defeated Denver 16-6 to win the title for the fourth time in league history. The Outlaws put up two goals early in the game, but Chesapeake answered with several goals and took control. Bayhawks midfielder Ben Hunt contributed six points in the back-and-forth contest.
The Outlaws snapped the Hamilton Nationals win streak in a 22-9 victory last Saturday, preserving their undefeated record and solidifying their offense as the best in the MLL. Veteran attackman Brendan Mundorf led the team offense against the Nationals with seven points (4, 3) and currently ranks third in the league with 25 points on the season. The Outlaws activated rookie attackman Eric Law who made his MLL debut against the Nationals scoring four goals and earning Cascade Rookie of the Week honors. Eight different players scored goals in Saturday’s win, proving that Denver’s extremely versatile offense is a huge factor in their success this season. The Outlaws defense is anchored by goalie Jesse Schwartzman who had seven saves against the Nationals with a .549 save percentage for the season.
After two tough overtime losses against the Boston Cannons (15-14) in Week 4 and Hamilton Nationals in Week 5 (12-11), the Chesapeake Bayhawks bounced back to defeat the New York Lizards 21-8 last Thursday at Randall’s Island. The Bayhawks dominated the game offensively. Attackman Drew Westervelt was named Warrior Offensive Player of the Week, scoring a career-high of eight goals accompanied by one assist. Attackman Ben Rubeor contributed five points (2, 3) against New York, bringing him to 17 goals on the season. Kip Turner remains a solid force between the pipes with 15 saves against the Lizards and is currently leading the league with a .624 save percentage on the season.
Following this weekend, the Bayhwaks will travel to Charlotte, N.C. to face the Hounds on Saturday, June 22 at 5:30 p.m. while the Outlaws return home to host the Ohio Machine on the same day at 8 p.m.
