PREVIEW: Ohio at Denver

Ohio Machine at Denver Outlaws

Saturday, June 22 — 8:00p.m. (ET) – Sports Authority Field at Mile High

TV: CBS Sports Network

Game Notes: Denver - Ohio

The Denver Outlaws look to remain unbeaten when they host the one-win Ohio Machine Saturday at 8p.m. (ET) at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.  The game will be broadcast nationally on CBS Sports Network.

Saturday is “Heroes Day” at Mile High; each Outlaw will take the field sporting a temporary new look.  Each player will be decked out in black, gray, and orange camouflage uniforms, in honor of the military, firefighters, police and first responders.  The team will auction off two team-signed jerseys at the game and individual player’s jerseys will be auctioned off online after the game. Proceeds from the jerseys will go to Angels of America’s Fallen, a Colorado-based non-profit, and the Red Cross to help with Colorado wildfire relief and prevention efforts.

The Outlaws defeated the Machine 13-8 in their last meeting, week two in Ohio.  Chris Bocklet and Brendan Mundorf led the way for the Outlaws scoring three and two goals respectively.  Eric O’Brien and Jeff Ledwick led the way for the Machine, both scoring two goals.

Last week the Machine won their first game of the season, defeating the Rochester Rattlers 13-11 on their home turf.  The Outlaws were in Annapolis for a match against the veteran Bayhawks, who they defeated 13-9 in a battle of two likely playoff teams.

It is likely Ohio will have trouble hanging with Denver, as they score eight goals a game, good for dead last in the MLL, compared to Denver’s League leading 17.43 a game.  For this game to be close, Ohio needs to find a way to both put more points on the board and also find a way to stop Denver’s potent Offense—something they had some success doing in their week two matchup, holding Denver to 13 goals, over four goals less than their season average.

Both teams have tremendous rookies, who were not in the lineup in the first meeting of the season, that provide an exciting future.  Denver’s Eric Law has won the previous two Cascade Rookies of the week—his first and only two weeks in the league—and has converted all of his nine shots for nine goals.  Ohio too has rookies already making significant contributions, Marcus Holman, a 2013 Tewaaraton Finalist, has recorded nine points and Logan Schuss eight, good for third and fourth on the team, while only playing in four games each.

Next week the Machine host the Boston Cannons on Saturday at 7:30p.m. (ET) televised locally and also nationally on ESPN3.com.  Saturday the Outlaws host the Charlotte Hounds at 9:00p.m. (ET) and will be broadcast nationally on CBS Sports Network on a 1 hour delay.
