Steele Stanwick All-Star

In his second year out of the University of Virginia, Ohio Machine attackman Steele Stanwick has emerged as a consistent and steadying force for a young Machine squad. After a promising rookie campaign in 2012 that saw him score 28 points in nine games, Stanwick has established himself as a leader on the offensive side of the field. He currently leads the team with 21 points through nine games. He has been the main facilitator for the Machine offense, leading the team with 14 assists, which is good for fourth in the league and third best among attackmen.

One of the things that Stanwick has proved this season is that he consistently shows up to play. While usually being marked by the opponent’s best defender, he managed to score at least a point in the first seven games of the season.  During that stretch, he put up three or more points on four occasions, the most notable of which was a five-point outburst in a week 4 loss to the Hamilton Nationals.

Throughout the first half of the season, the Machine has struggled with injuries to key players like Chazz Woodson and Connor Martin, and Stanwick has been the main focus of defenses every time he’s stepped on the field. As rookie attackmen Marcus Holman and Logan Schuss adjust further to the MLL game, the pressure should ease up on Stanwick, which will only help him create scoring opportunities for him and his teammates.

The former second overall draft pick had one of the best careers in the storied history of Virginia lacrosse. In his junior season in 2011, he became the third Cavalier to win the Tewaaraton Trophy, the award for the best collegiate player in the nation, while leading Virginia to the fifth national championship in program history. During his career, Stanwick was twice voted ACC Player of the Year and a First-Team All-American. He finished an illustrious career with 269 career points, the most ever by a Virginia player.

You can see Stanwick play in the 2013 MLL All-Star Game presented by Moe’s Southwest Grill on Saturday, July 13, at 7:00 pm at American Legion Memorial Stadium in Charlotte, N.C. The game will also be broadcast live by ESPN2. For tickets or more information on the event, visit the MajorLeagueLacrosse.com All-Star Page.
