Hamilton Nationals @ Rochester Rattlers
Sunday, July 7 - 3:00 p.m. (ET) Sahlen’s Stadium, Rochester, N.Y.
TV: CBS Sports Network
The Hamilton Nationals (6-3) will travel to Sahlen’s Stadium in Rochester, N.Y. to complete the 2013 series with the Rochester Rattlers (4-5).
This will be the seventh all-time meeting between the Nationals and Rattlers, with Hamilton winning all but one match. Two weeks ago, these teams met in Boca Raton, Fla. Despite a four-goal game by John Ranagan, Hamilton earned the victory handily behind Brett Queener’s 22 saves. Offensively, Hamilton’s Joe Walters racked up three goals and three assists and Martin Cahill tallied four goals, including one two-pointer.
Hamilton enters the weekend after dropping a game 17-10 to Chesapeake. Queener’s 19 saves and Walters’s five-point game were not enough to overpower the unstoppable Bayhawks. Kevin Crowley, the team leader in points and goals, was held to one fourth-quarter goal, preserving his franchise best 24 consecutive game point streak.
Despite last week’s loss, the Nationals have some of the best offensive players in the League. Crowley is second in the League in points and goals. Walters has moved into first in the League in assists with 17. In second place, Kevin Cunningham is one assist shy of his teammate. The Nationals have assisted on over 60 percent of their goals this season; only two other teams have assisted on more than 50 percent of their goals.
Hamilton acquired Josh Amidon this week in a trade with Charlotte. Last week Amidon notched a two-point goal against Denver, which was his second of the season. He will be another offensive threat for the Nationals.
Rochester will seek to avenge their week eight loss and win their second straight game at home. Rattler Kevin Leveille is the reigning Warrior Offensive Player of the Week for his five-point game against New York last week.
Other scorers stepped up for Rochester against New York with Matt Striebel recording four points, including his League-best fifth two-pointer of the season, and rookie Dave Lawson tallying two goals and three assists.
This week should be a pretty even match up for the goalies and faceoff men. Queener and Galloway rank fourth and fifth in GAA, respectively, and Rochester is sixth in the League in faceoff percentage while Hamilton is seventh. In their last meeting, Mike Poppleton outgunned John Ortolani by one faceoff win.
Tune in to CBS Sports Network to see these two teams duke it out this Sunday, July 7, at 3 p.m. (ET).
Next week, five Hamilton Nationals and four Rochester Rattlers will travel to Charlotte, N.C., for the 2013 MLL All-Star Game at American Legion Memorial Stadium. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2 at 7 p.m. For more information, visit the MajorLeagueLacrosse.com All-Star Game page.
