Nine for #9 - Matt Striebel All-Star

Matt Striebel will make his ninth appearance in this weekend’s MLL All-Star Game, presented by Moe’s Southwest Grill, the most appearances by a player in League history.

Striebel entered the League in its inaugural 2001 season, and has competed in a record setting 146 games. The midfielder has enjoyed much success in his 13-year career, seeing his name printed on the ASG roster since 2005. "My favorite All-Star game was the game in 2005 out in Denver. It was the original Old Guns/Young Guns format, and I got the chance to run with Gary Gait, Jay Jalbert, and Jesse Hubbard, among others. Denver was not yet an MLL market, there were tons of fans there, and the fireworks display at the end of the game was pretty spectacular. The whole event seemed to mark an important 'here we go' moment for the League. Things suddenly felt a little bit more big time," Striebel reflected.

Throughout his tenure, the All-Star has amassed 341 points, 211 goals, 19 2-point goals, and 111 assists. Each statistic ranks in the top 10 of MLL's record book for individual career records. Most importantly, Striebel has won three championships, bringing home the Steinfeld Trophy to Philadelphia in 2004, 2006, and 2007. In 2007, he earned the Championship Game MVP award after a three-goal, three-assist performance. Striebel was also named to the MLL All-Pro team in 2007 and 2008.

His success has continued in Rochester, as Striebel is currently in his third year with the Rattlers. He ranks second on Rochester's leaderboard with 22 points this season, scoring at least one point in all but one game this year. Four point outings in Week 1 against Chesapeake and Week 9 against New York have highlighted this veteran's 2013 campaign.

Striebel's most recent fame has come from behind the 2-point arc. His 19 deuces are tied for eighth place in MLL's records for career 2-point goals. In his past three seasons with the Rattlers, Striebel has tallied 17, good for 89 percent of his career deep scores.

"The MLL is the most competitive lacrosse environment out there. In order to stay in the League for any length of time, you have to find a role and excel at it. Now that I'm older I've got to figure out new and different ways of staying relevant and effective for my team," he said of his 2-point progress.

Striebel credited his teammates for a lot of his achievements, "If you don't have dodgers and feeders around you, you're not going to be able to get your hands free. There's a reciprocal symbiotic relationship. The better the dodgers around you, the more open you'll be. The more 2-pointers you hit, the more open the paint is going to be for those dodgers."

Striebel will be joined by teammates Ned Crotty, Michael Manley, and Jordan MacIntosh in Saturday's MLL All-Star Game presented by Moe's Southwest Grill. When asked what his favorite thing on the Moe's menu was, Striebel answered "Chicken quesadillas. Always."
