The Denver Outlaws quickly became the team to beat this season, and it was easy to see why. They had one of the strongest goaltenders in Jesse Schwartzman, a powerful defense in Matt Bocklet and Lee Zink, and some of the best offense with Chris Bocklet, Drew Snider, and Jeremy Sieverts… and finally Brendan Mundorf helping lead the way as one of the team’s highest scorers.
It’s easy to list stats about the Denver Outlaws, and their 13-0 record, their league-leading 152 goals, and 303 points. But something just as impressive about this team, is the way each individual player performs, and to highlight one specific attackman, Brendan Mundorf. While Chris Bocklet may have more points on the season, Mundorf has proven to be integral to the Denver Outlaws.
The former UMBC attackman has an incredible running mate on his attack line with Bocklet who should be considered as a candidate for MLL MVP, but we believe that while he is a tremendous player, playing alongside Mundorf is what makes him even better.
Mundorf is no stranger to individual awards, taking home the title of MVP just last season. Again in 2013 he is a leading candidate for the MLL MVP Award. He is the captain of one of the best offense to ever play in the MLL. Currently Denver is sixth all time in single season goals, and with one game left on the season they’re looking to move up on the list. Without Mundorf’s 23 goals, this would not be the case.
Mundorf leads his team in assists with 18, something that is invaluable to the Outlaws, who lead the league in scoring. When you consider that Mundorf has not only posted 15% of all goals scored by Denver, but he as also contributed to 18 others, including several of Chris Bocklet’s. Having played a major role in the Outlaws organization Mundorf certainly knows the importance of playing hard every time out in order to remain a part of an undefeated team.
Mundorf just recently played his 98th game in the MLL, all as a Denver Outlaw, and he never seems to disappoint, putting up no less than 22 goals in each of his eight seasons with the League. This season he has proven himself to be indispensable, pulling in at least three points in nine of his last 11 games.
Mundorf finds a way to be involved with each play, getting into the action and understanding that even if he can’t make the shot, someone else can. He has found the holes and demonstrated a phenomenal passing game this season.
The Outlaws, with the help of Mundorf have secured the number one seed in the playoffs, heading to Championship Weekend presented by Smartlink.
