Offensive Player Watch: Matt Danowski

In their second year of existence, the Charlotte Hounds are making their first playoff run behind the scoring ability of Matt Danowski. The two-time Warrior Offensive Player of the Week will be making his play for the annual title as he leads the Hounds to their first Championship Weekend, presented by Smartlink.

The Duke Lacrosse assistant coach, whose squad earned a national title of their own, will seek the first Championship for the Hounds. Danowski is the veteran behind the young Charlotte attack, a unit that is responsible for 47 percent of all of the Hounds’ goals.

Danowski is anchoring the third-most productive offense in the League. He is responsible for five of the League-leading 14 two-point goals scored by Charlotte this season.

The former NCAA all-time leading scorer has notched a career-high 32 goals this season and is just two points shy of his personal record of 47 points in a season, a feat he accomplished in 2010 with the Long Island Lizards. He is likely to break this record as he and the Hounds fight for the three seed in the playoffs as they face Chesapeake this weekend.

Danowski’s seven-point game, including a career-high six goals, against Hamilton last week, undoubtedly proves that he’s a contender for the Offensive Player of the Year title. His seven points accounted for half of Charlotte’s score in their 14-11 victory over the Nationals en route to the playoffs.

As one of the captains for the Hounds, Danowski is a proven leader and competitor. He works hard to create scoring chances to give his team the victory. Danowski is the guy Charlotte trusts to have the ball in his stick during crunch time, and he has proven why with the game-winning goal each of the past two games.

Danowski and the Hounds will try to make history at Championship Weekend presented by Smartlink. Be sure to visit MajorLeagueLacrosse.com to learn more and see who will earn the title of Warrior Offensive Player of the Year.
