The National Lacrosse League kicked off its season this past Saturday with three exciting games.
The action started with the Philadelphia Wings traveling to face off against the Buffalo Bandits. The Wings defeated the Bandits 17-13. MLL’s Jordan Hall(Florida Launch) stole the show and led the Wings in handing the Bandits their first loss with five goals and two assists. Hall scored four unanswered goals in the middle of the second quarter in a five minute span. Teammates and fellow MLL players Brodie Merrill(Boston Cannons) (1A, 15GB), Kyle Sweeney(Boston Cannons) (1G, 2A) and Kevin Crowley(Florida Launch) (2G, 3A) all assisted Hall in his scoring spree. Evan Kirk, of Florida Launch, was in goal for the Wings and had 39 saves. Hall received game MVP honors for his efforts.
The Rochester Knighthawks, who have held the NLL Title for two consecutive years defeated the Minnesota Swarm in a close 8-6 victory at home. Logan Schussand Kiel Matiszwho are both teammates in the NLL (Minnesota Swarm) and MLL (Ohio Machine) had a goal and assist apiece in the season opener. Jordan MacIntosh(Rochester Rattlers) contributed two assists for the Swarm as well. On Rochester’s end, Cody Jamiesonhad one goal and two assists while Joe Walterscontributed a goal and an assist. Jamieson and Walters are also teammates in MLL on Florida Launch.
The final game of opening weekend led to the Edmonton Rush defeating the Colorado Mammoth in a 13-10 victory on the road. Zack Greer(Denver Outlaws) had three goals and two assists for Edmonton while Jeremy Thompson(Florida Launch) contributed 11 ground balls in the win. John Grant Jr. (Denver Outlaws) added three goals and one assist for the Mammoth’s.
Upcoming games for the NLL include the Calgary Roughnecks traveling to Toronto to face the Rock Friday, January 3rd. Saturday, the 4th the Vancouver Stealth will take on the Colorado Mammoth on the road.
