On Friday, the Philadelphia Wings lost their first of two back-to-back games against their hosts the Toronto Rock 10-20. The Rocks were solid in their defense, but MLL’s Kevin Crowley of the Florida Launch was able to squeeze three goals out of his 18 shots on net, the team’s high. Crowley’s MLL teammate, Garrett Thul, and Rochester Rattlers’ teammates Mike Manley and John Ranagan also helped the Wings’ offense with six assists. New York Lizards’ CJ Costabile won 53.1% of his draws, but unfortunately their efforts weren’t enough to trump Toronto.
The next day, the Wings hosted the Edmonton Rush, losing 8-6 at the Wells Fargo Center. Florida Launch’s Kevin Crowley continued to produce offensively, notching another two goals and an assist in Saturday evening’s game. He was aided by Boston Cannon’s Kyle Sweeney who also scored a goal, and Rochester Rattler John Ranagan, who threw in a helper. Edmonton was led on the field by Florida Launch’s midfielder Jeremy Thompson, who scored a goal from his one shot on net, scooped 15 loose balls and won 61.7% of his faceoffs in an impressive display of two-way mindfulness.
The Buffalo Bandits were robbed later that day by the hosting Rochester Knighthawks, falling 6-9. Chesapeake Bayhawks’ Joe Walters and Florida Launch’s Cody Jamieson both scored goals in their victory over Buffalo, Jamieson also notching four assists.
The Calgary Roughnecks roughed up the Minnesota Swarm in a high-scoring game of 15-13 at the Xcel Energy Center, in which Charlotte Hounds’ Geoff Snider contributed a goal and an assist, while scooping 23 loose balls and winning 23 out of his 31 faceoffs for a 74.2% draw percentage. Although Minnesota battled back with goals and assists from Denver Outlaws’ Cam Flint (1,1), and Ohio Machine teammates Logan Schuss (1,1) and Kiel Matisz (1,1), the Swarm ultimately fell to the Roughnecks in the second half.
The final game of the weekend took place in Vancouver and featured the Colorado Mammoth stealing the game just by a single goal in the final quarter, defeating the Stealth 10-9. The game winning goal was assisted by Mammoth’s star John Grant, Jr. of MLL’s Denver Outlaws. Grant had two other assists and two goals of his own in Colorado’s win over Vancouver, and Chesapeake Bayhawks’ Drew Westervelt also had two helpers.
