Matt Abbott, a three-time MLL All-Star currently with the Chesapeake Bayhawks, joined the roster of Brine athletes this past week.
Team Elite is more than just a group of brand ambassadors; they’re a crucial part of the equipment development process. They provide insights and recommendations and test products, giving feedback on how each piece of equipment stands up to the highest level of play.
Abbott earned his way onto the squad by showing his caliber both on and off the field.
On the field, Abbott was a two-time National Champion and two-time All-American at Syracuse, and earned the 9th overall selection in the 2009 MLL Collegiate Draft. As a pro, he’s been a three-time MLL All-Star and a three-time MLL Champion. Abbott has spent his whole career with the Bayhawks, appearing in 61 games, scoring 39 goals, recording 23 assists and collecting 209 ground balls along the way.
Most recently Abbott was named to the 30-man US Lacrosse roster that will play in the 2014 MLL All-Star Game at Harvard Stadium on June 26.
ESPN analyst Quint Kessenich called Abbott the “Best all-around player in the U.S.” during the recent Champion Challenge Blue and White scrimmage.
“He has endless cardio,” Kessenich said. “He has a strong IQ on restarts and in clearing, can cover on defense one on one, runs the field extremely well and takes advantage of match ups in transition offense. Nobody does more for their team in so many facets.”
Off the field, he has earned numerous honors as well. At Syracuse he was a Lowe's Senior Class Award Finalist and a USILA Scholar All-American. He graduated from Syracuse in 2009 with a degree in Accounting and Finance just prior to beginning his overwhelmingly successful professional career.
"I am honored and excited to be joining Brine Team Elite. I grew up using Brine products throughout my youth and high school lacrosse playing days in Syracuse, New York. To have the opportunity to represent the brand both on the field in the MLL and off the field is something I'm really looking forward to."
Matt looks forward to turning heads both on and off the field, and utilizing his new perch as brand ambassador for Brine to continue pursuing his athletic and professional goals.
