Jeremy Boltus ships to Afghanistan

Lacrosse players have to make plenty of sacrifices in their life, but Denver Outlaws attackman Jeremy Boltus will be making an even bigger one. The West Point grad will be serving in the United States Army for the next nine months, choosing country before all.

Boltus will give up playing in the 2014 season and fly to Afghanistan to take part in the “War on Terror.” This is his first deployment, so his first tour will be part of OEF 14.

“It makes me proud that I can serve this great country and be a part of one of the greatest teams this country has ever assembled,” Boltus said.

The Baldwinsville, N.Y. native has been a fantastic player in his MLL career. He’s recorded 76 points in just 33 games, registering 30 points in his first two seasons in the league. He’s played for three teams in his three years as a pro, suiting up for Hamilton, Charlotte and Denver.

However, the safety of the United States and its people come before sport for Boltus. Before he left, Jeremy had this message for the lacrosse world:

“The typical outsider would never realize how close and supportive the fans of this game truly are. I want to thank everyone for reaching out and for the endless support as I make this journey overseas. You guys really are some of the best fans in the world.

“As I start this next chapter, I'm working with John Jiloty of Inside Lacrosse to try and document what I can and keep in touch with the lacrosse world. Keep an eye out for a blog in the near future and I look forward to following another great season in the MLL. Go Denver Outlaws, time to bring a Steinfeld Trophy back to the Mile High city.”

We here at Major League Lacrosse would like to wish Jeremy and all his U.S. Army teammates the best of luck and a safe return.
