This week the National Lacrosse League featured its first round of single elimination playoff games with the Calgary Roughnecks and the Buffalo Bandits continuing onto the next round.
The Calgary Roughnecks (6-5), ranked second in the Western Conference, were able to defeat the Colorado Mammoth (5-6), ranked third, in overtime 16-15. Despite the offensive efforts of Denver Outlaws’ John Grant, Jr., who scored two goals and assisted five others, producing a whopping 19 shots on goal, the Mammoth were unable to secure a win in sudden death overtime. Charlotte Hound’s midfielder Geoff Snider was a dominant force for Calgary’s possession, winning 20 out of 28 of his faceoffs for an impressive 71.4% faceoff winning percentage, and scooping 10 loose balls. He also netted two goals and served two penalty minutes.
The Bandits (6-7), ranked third in the Eastern Conference, were able to steal a win from the Toronto Rock (6-6), ranked second, 15-13.
Next weekend, the Rochester Knighthawks (14-4), kings of the Eastern Conference, will take on the Buffalo Bandits at 7:30 p.m. ET. Then, the Edmonton Rush(16-2), who are atop the Western Conference, will take on the Calgary Roughnecks at 9:00 p.m. ET.
