This weekend, the National Lacrosse League hosted Game One of the two-game series for the Champion’s Cup. The Calgary Roughnecks now lead the series 1-0 with a 10-7 victory over the back-to-back reigning champions.
Calgary was first on the board on their home turf at the Scotiabank Saddledome Saturday night, taking the lead merely two minutes into the first quarter. Despite a scoring drought in the third and being without powerhouse midfielder Geoff Snider of the Charlotte Hounds, they never relinquished the lead.
The Knighthawks battled back in the second and third, scoring majority of their goals in the game. Joe Walters of the Chesapeake Bayhawks led the team in points with one goal and three assists, with Florida Launch teammates Cody Jamieson (one goal, two assists) and Stephen Keogh (one goal) not far behind.
The final game of the series will take place next Saturday, May 31 at 8:00 p.m. ET in Rochester, NY. If the Knighthawks win and the series is tied 1-1, there will be a ten minute mini-game to decide the Champion’s Cup final victors.
