Saturday, May 31-7:00 PM (EST) – Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium

Watch: CBS Sports Network

Game Notes: OhioChesapeake

The Chesapeake Bayhawks (1-3) look to get their second win on their home turf against the Ohio Machine (1-3) this Saturday night. Both teams have a 1-3 record, which certainly is not what both clubs wanted for the start of the season.

Last Time Out:

Ohio: Ohio suffered their third loss this season. The Machine were unable to hold off the New York Lizards the final minutes of the game last Saturday at Selby Stadium. Just six minutes in, the Machine were up 3-0 with two goals from Peter Baum and one from rookie Tom Schreiber. Even though Ohio was off to a quick start, New York was able to come back and hold on for an 11-9 win.

Chesapeake: In Annapolis, the Bayhawks suffered their third loss this season, losing 15-12 to the Florida Launch. Even though they had a noteworthy fourth quarter, scoring 6 goals it was just not enough to come back for the win. Chesapeake defense could not sustain attackmen Casey Powell and Kieran McArdle who had a combined total of 13 points.

Storylines:

One Love Foundation: The Yeardly Reynolds Love Unsung Hero Award recognizes the accomplishments of a student-athlete who helps their team achieve success in ways that may not be measured in goals, saves or ground balls. The One Love Foundation will honor the lacrosse player that shares the qualities that Yeardley Love displayed. The 2014 YRL Unsung Hero Award Men’s Finalists are Princeton University, Ohio Machine midfielder Tom Schreiber and Yale University, Chesapeake Bayhawks midfielder Dylan Levings.

Streaks: Ohio and Chesapeake are both looking to break their losing streak. Both teams have a 1-3 record. The Bayhawks are looking to clinch a home field win at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium this Saturday night.

Sibling Rivalry: Machine midfielder Jake Bernhardt and younger brother Jesse Bernhardt, Bayhawks long stick defensive midfielder will be going head to head this Saturday night under the lights. The Bernhardt brothers have a close fraternal relationship, but when they step on the field together it becomes a different story. Fans are in for a treat because this game will definitely bring out a lot of excitement.

Players to Watch:

Ohio: The young blood has definitely been heating up. Schreiber and Baum have all been making a dramatic impact for the Machine. Baum leads the team with 10 goals and 13 points, and has already recorded three hat tricks. Schreiber has shown that he is not shy when he has possession of the ball. In just two games he has scored four goals, including a hat trick against the Lizards and has tallied one assist.

Veterans are displaying their dominance as well. Midfielder Kyle Harrison ranks second on the team with 10 points. Attackman Marcus Holman has five goals and four assist. Ohio has periodically shown that they are a threat, however in order to win games they need everyone to be on board at the same time.

Chesapeake: Attackman Brendan Mundorf has been on fire this season so far. Mundorf has a total of 12 points, with 8 goals and 4 assists. Ohio needs to find a way to put out his fire early. Also, keep an eye out for midfielder Steven Brooks who had 3 goals against Florida last week.

2013 Season Series:

Last regular season does not look like this season. The Chesapeake Bayhawks were a force to be reckoned with, outscoring the Machine 14-5, and then beating them again 13-12 in their second encounter. Last year, Chesapeake ended up winning the coveted Steinfeld Trophy. Today, due to the Bayhawks rocky start to the season they continue to sit at the bottom.

Fun Facts:

Ohio: Attackman Logan Schuss is just one goal away from tying Jim Connolly as the Machine’s all-time leading goal scorer.

The Machine may be 1-3 on the season, but they’ve only lost those three games by a combined five goals.

Chesapeake: The Bayhawks have three rookies that could be making an appearance in this weekend’s game: Pat Kiernan, Dylan Levings, and Mark McNeil.
