RECAP: Rochester 18 - Florida 11

FINAL STATS

The Florida Launch fell to the Rochester Rattlers 18-11 on Sunday afternoon at Sahlen’s Stadium in Rochester, NY. Both teams walk away with a 3-2 overall standing.

The unpredictable fate of these two teams boiled down to one question: which team will be more advantageous on offense? With powerhouses like Launch attackmen Casey Powell and Kieran McArdle against Rattlers FO John Ortolani and veteran attackman Kevin Leveille, it locked us in for a couple hours of phenomenal lacrosse.

The Rattlers set the tone with a goal from midfielder Jordan MacIntosh 21 seconds into the game. A quick response was made when middies Kevin Crowely and Roman Lao-Gosney scored a goal within just under a minute and a half of each other.

Rookie and recent Tewaaraton Award winner Miles Thompson made his professional debut representing the Rattlers. He netted his first career goal at the 3:02 mark. M Jordan Hall and McArdle were both able to take advantage of the powerplay giving a 2-point lead for the Launch. M Justin Turri kept the back and forth momentum going for the Rattlers and scored with just under a minute left in the first quarter leaving the score 4-3 Launch.

The second quarter started with the Launch still maintaining most of the control. However, the Rattlers picked up the pace and were able to score five unanswered goals in the last five minutes of the quarter. Hall gave goalie John Galloway little to no chance with a quick shot in the first minute of play. Rattlers M Dave Lawson answered with a beautiful unassisted, cross dive goal. The Launch netted three goals in a row giving the team an 8-4 lead. Rochester felt the heat and responded the way they needed to with five goals from five different players, including rookie Mark Cockerton in his debut.

The second half started with the Rattlers leading 9-8. The third quarter was a lot quieter with three goals for the Rattlers and one for the Launch. Garrett Thul of the Launch earned himself a hat trick, while Leveille, John Ranagan, and Mike Manley tallied points for the Rattlers. Though the Launch had crisp ball movement, the offense was struggling to get off shots.

The Launch was unable to close the gap with the Rattlers firing off shots with accuracy. Rochester ended the fourth quarter with four unanswered goals, solidifying the win. Rattlers Mark Matthews scored his first goal of the season, while teammates, Leveille and MacIntosh, earned hat tricks. Manley finished off the game scoring another Rattlers goal with only 28.6 seconds left in the game. The Rattlers finished strong to deserve the at-home win.

Brett Queener had 11 saves out of 25 shots on goal for the Launch. Galloway came up with some key saves in the third quarter to keep the Rattlers in it. He saved 12 goals out of 23 shots. Ortolani had 21-33 face offs.

The Rochester Rattlers will play at home again this Thursday, June 05 at 7:30 PM ET against the Chesapeake Bayhawks. The Florida Launch will also play at home this Saturday, June 07 at 5:30 PM ET against the New York Lizards.
