Boston, MA (February 11, 2011) –Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced the signing of several key players this week, including Cannons’ midfielder Paul Rabil, who agreed to a one-year contract.
Rabil played in ten MLL games last year for the Boston Cannons. He was second on the team with 21 goals, second with 37 points, tied for first with six 2-point goals and had ten assists. The Johns Hopkins alum was named to the 2010 Great Atlantic All-MLL Team and played for the US Men’s National Team at the 2010 World Championships, where he won the gold medal and was named the 2010 World Championship’s MVP. In 2009, Rabil was named Bud Light MLL MVP and Warrior Offensive Player of the Year.
Brendan Mundorf also re-signed, agreeing to a one-year contract to play for the Denver Outlaws. The attackman played in 11 MLL games last year for the Outlaws, with 22 goals and 16 assists. The UMBC graduate was named the Bud Light MVP Honoree of the Week four times in 2009 and the Warrior Offensive Player of the Week on May 26, 2009.
Tim Goettelmann, who plays for the Long Island Lizards, also re-signed for another year. The Loyola graduate played in 12 MLL games last year, scored 21 goals and had eight assists. Goettelmann has twice been named the New Balance Sportsman of the Year, winning the award in both 2009 and 2010. He holds the MLL record for most goals scored in a game, with nine goals (on only ten shots) in a game against New Jersey in 2003. Though there had been much speculation that Goettelmann would retire at the end of last season, the ten-year veteran made his intentions clear after the 2010 Championship Weekend that he would be returning for an 11thseasons with the league.
