BAYHAWKS ACQUIRE BROOKS FROM RATTLERS FOR BRIAN VETTER
Boston, Mass. (February 18, 2011)– Major League Lacrosse (MLL),the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced Thursday the first major player transaction of the 2011 season. The Chesapeake Bayhawks acquired All-Star midfielder Steven Brooks of the Rochester Rattlers. In exchange, Rochester received 3-year veteran midfielder Brian Vetter.
“Steven Brooks has made a great name for himself in the lacrosse world as an unbelievable two-way midfielder who can shoot the lights out on the offensive end as well as shut down the opponent’s top midfielder,” said Bayhawks General Manager Spencer Ford. “We feel the addition of Steven will give us the two best midfield units in the league and we are very excited to see Steven in a Bayhawks jersey in 2011. We look to build our roster with the right players based on commitment, character and leadership and Stephen brings all of those and more.”
Brooks began his MLL career with the former Chicago Machine, now the Rochester Rattlers, in 2008 where he tallied 35 points with 23 goals, 3 two-point goals, and 9 assists. In his 2 years with the Machine, Brooks played in 15 games and had a career total of 44 points and 26 ground balls. In the 2008 MLL All-Star Game, Brooks was part of the winning Western Conference Team and added a total of 4 points.
Rochester Rattlers Head Coach, B.J. O’Hara expressed his thoughts on the transaction.
“Whenever you give up a talented offensive player like Steven Brooks, it’s very difficult to fill that void. However, we feel we have done just that with the addition of Brian Vetter to our midfield. An extremely fit, dangerous and skilled offensive player, he will fit in nicely and give us even more offensive punch.”
On the loss of Vetter, Ford said he wishes him nothing but the best.
“He contributed to our organization both on and off the field, which helped us reach our goal of winning the 2010 MLL Championship. He will bring great leadership and value to the Rattlers through his work ethic and attitude.”
