BOSTON, Mass. – Major League Lacrosse, the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced Monday its weekly award winners for the week ending May 15, 2011, according to MLL Commissioner David Gross. Denver Outlaws attackman Brendan Mundorf earned the League’s Offensive Player of the Week award while Boston Cannons goalkeeper Kip Turner was named as the MLL Defensive Player of the Week.
Mundorf scored six goals and added four assists to lead the Outlaws to an 18-10 victory over the Long Island Lizards on Saturday night at INVESCO Field at Mile High. He set the Outlaws single-game record with his 10-point effort, breaking the previous mark of nine points, which Mike Law set against the Baltimore Bayhawks on June 3, 2006.
In additon, Mundorf’s 10 points are the most by an MLL player since John Grant, Jr. tallied 11 points on July 26, 2008 in the Rochester Rattlers’ 26-19 victory over the Boston Cannons.
The Outlaws’ all-time leading scorer with 212 points, Mundorf has scored 150 goals with 62 assists. He ranked fourth in the MLL last year with 38 points, scoring 22 goals with 16 assists.
In leading the Cannons to a 15-12 victory over the Long Island Lizards on Saturday night, Turner made 21 saves and allowed just 11 goals. He made 11 of his 21 saves in the first half as the Cannons jumped out to a 7-6 half-time lead and held on for the victory.
Turner recorded his first 20-save effort since July 10, 2010 when he helped the Cannons to a 15-9 victory over the Bayhawks with a 20-save performance. It was also the sixth 20-save game of his career.
The 2010 Warrior MLL Goalkeeper of the Year, Turner ranked second in the MLL last year with an 11.70 goals against average while leading the league with a .595 save percentage. He also led the MLL with 176 saves in 12 games, a 14.67 average.
Mundorf and the Outlaws will travel to Harvard Stadium on Saturday to face the Cannons at 7 p.m.
