Hamilton Nationals and Long Island Lizards Announce Major Trade
Boston, MA (June 14, 2011) – Major League Lacrosse (MLL) announced a major trade this evening that will bring Hamilton Nationals attackman and former two-time MLL MVP John Grant Jr. to the Long Island Lizards after two years with the Nationals.
“John Grant Jr. is an unbelievably great player,” said Jody Gage, General Manager of the Hamilton Nationals. “We’re in the process of rebuilding and we’re going with the younger guys right now so we [took advantage of] an opportunity for a draft pick, but also we’ve got to get our young guys in the lineup."
The MLL veteran played for the Rochester Rattlers for five years before spending two years with the Nationals. He won two MLL Championship titles, one with the Rattlers in 2008 and one with the Nationals in 2009. He is the only MLL player to have received the “Warrior Offensive Player of the Year” award three times.
The trade also includes recently drafted midfielder and face-off specialist, Adam Rand, who was the Nationals 6th round draft pick. Hailing from Stonybrook, Rand was the 31st overall pick in the 2011 MLL Collegiate Draft.
When the Nationals picked up Matt Dolente from the MLL Player Pool on Monday, GM Jody Gage said the trade “was an opportunity [for Adam] to play somewhere else.”
The Long Island Lizards will give the Nationals their 2nd round draft pick in the 2012 MLL Collegiate Draft in exchange for John Grant Jr. and Adam Rand; a 4th round draft pick if Grant Jr. does not report.
