Final Stats (HTML)

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Midfielder Paul Rabil scored four goals, including three in the first half, and added two assists as the Boston Cannons (4-1) opened their four-game road trip with a 16-14 Major League Lacrosse victory over the Rochester Rattlers (0-4) at Sahlen's Stadium on Saturday evening.

The win allowed the Cannons to remain tied for first place in the MLL standings with Denver, which posted a 15-7 victory over Hamilton on Saturday night. Meanwhile, the Rattlers remain the only team in the MLL this season without a victory.

After rookie attackman Jordan McBride gave the Rattlers a 1-0 lead just under three minutes into the first quarter, the Cannons took a 2-1 advantage on back-to-back goals by attackman Matt Poskay and defenseman Jack Reid.

The Rattlers tied the game at 2-2 when midfielder Jordan Levine scored off a feed from midfielder Matt Striebel, but the Cannons responded by scoring three straight goals, including a pair of Rabil markers, to take a 5-2 lead at the end of the first quarter.

But, the Rattlers responded by opening the second quarter with four straight goals, including a goal and an assist from Levine and McBride, to take a 6-5 lead with 6:36 left in the period.

After Rabil tied the game with his third goal of the game, the Rattlers used goals from McBride and midfielder Anthony Kelly to take an 8-6 lead at the intermission.

The teams traded goals to open the third quarter before Rabil and attackman Max Quinzani tallied consecutive goals to tie the game at 9-9 with 11:33 remaining in the stanza.

Attackman Ned Crotty scored an unassisted goal to regain the Rattlers' lead to 10-9, but the Cannons ended the third quarter by scoring four consecutive goals to take a 13-10 advantage. Quinzani led the Cannons with a goal and an assist during the spurt.

Poskay upped the Cannons' lead to 14-10 just 31 seconds into the fourth quarter, but the Rattlers answered by scoring four straight points, including a two-point goal by Striebel, to tie the game at 14-14 with 5:04 left in regulation.

But, the Cannons got goals from Quinzani and Heim in a two-minute span to regain a two-point lead they did not relinquish.

While Rabil led the Cannons with his six-point effort to earn Bud Light Player of the Game honors, Poskay scored a game-high five goals for Boston. Heim added two goals while attackman Ryan Boyle had two assists.

Goalkeeper Jordan Burke, who entered the game as the MLL leader in save percentage and goals against average, made 11 of his 16 saves in the first half.

Making his MLL debut, McBride led the Rattlers with four goals and two assists while Striebel scored a two-point goal with two assists.

The Rattlers outshot Boston by a 50-44 margin and had a 30-28 advantage in ground balls.
